I love Phil, think he's big, cuddling and friendly, but that pic is very flattering
I think it's okay overall except his smile looks too forced.

Also, I agree with early comments on this thread. Must be a slow day at MacRumors because this is Page 2 material.

Wouldn't SVP of Marketing might be better still?
Apple's a huge, global company, I think it's assumed that it's SVP of Marketing addresses the whole world.

It's interesting because I would think Jony Ive should be titled SVP of Design, but instead, it's Industrial Design, which is apt because "design" is too broad. In this case, "worldwide" does not restrict marketing the same way "industrial" does "design."

So, I cannot make sense of why "Worldwide Marketing" is better than just "Marketing."

Who can and who cares?

Look how old he's getting but he doesnt seem to age bad just like out government. Must be a secret to keeping young.

ANyways Phil Schiller what a name :D

I really don't care.

We are now entering a most crucial phase of Apple as a company. Will they be able to continue or will things fall apart.

As a historian I seem some resemblances to the period when Alexander the Great died. A man who conquered the known world and passed away at a young age. He was surrounded by a group of ambitious men that couldn't keep the goals of Alexander alive and his empire was doomed due to internal struggle and quickly fell apart.

So every little sign that we see now tells us someting about how this power struggle within Apple is working out.

So don’t post pointless comments.

My post wasn't pointless. I was expressing my displeasure that there are such boring and uninteresting stories being passed off as 'news' here. I'm well aware this is simply my own opinion but I'm completely at liberty to post my opinion, should I feel it important to do so.

I'm not quite sure what the slight retitling of an employee can tell you, but if you can read something into it, more power to you.

Who the hell cares!

Translation: Couldn't you have published no story instead of this. He accidentally read a story that he has no interest in and now wants his 2 minutes back. (Plus 5 minutes to log in and write his post in which he wasted his time asking you to stop wasting his time.)

Meanwhile I am interested in the goings on at the top of Apple Inc.

Tidbits are tidbits but sometimes they add up.

You just gotta trust that the dots will add up.

Why do people insist on telling us it is a slow news day on slow news days.

I of course never miss a chance to state the obvious.

Is that your idea of a meaningful contribution to the thread?

"Hello Kettle? This is Pot ... You're black."

No, his comment actually brought some value. It was a little advice to those ninnies who find it necessary to post the totally inaccurate statements such as "I don't care."

Obviously, they cared enough to reply. The definition of not caring would be to see the headline, shrug your shoulders and move on. Not waste their time, effort and the electrons to post the lie that they don't care.

But you're missing the larger point: Nobody really cares that you don't care. Do you write letters to the editors of magazines, newspapers, blog sites, etc. that you find their articles boring or uninteresting to yourself? Last time I checked there were literally millions of Macrumors readers, with varied interests. I could care less that yet another "unnamed source" claims to have held an iPhone 5. Or that Phil Schiller got a title change, for that matter. But I appreciate that others might find it interesting.

You really think you are the arbiter for what is interesting enough to be publishable? Little arrogant, if you ask me. You ever get dizzy from following the universe revolve around you?

should go to Johny Ive.

Ive is the next Steve Jobs with out the CEO title.

No. That would be Scott Forstall. Ive doesn't want to lead (this is already known), nor is Ive necessarily the leader type to begin with. He's exceptionally talented - arguably the best in the business - but he needs more than design talent to run the company, OR push through the kinds of initiatives that Jobs did.

Scott is a natural for the role. He's like Jobs in many ways. He seems to have just the right amount of brilliance + ****** to push things forward. Have a look here:

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/scott-forstall-the-sorcerers-apprentice-at-apple-10122011.html\

Now, if Scott and Ive can work well together, you're looking at the probably the most powerful force in consumer tech today, from a design perspective at least.

I think industrial makes sense in Ive's case. I don't think he gets into the GUIs of or packaging for the products, so it's a meaningful adjective.

I agree. And his specialty is industrial design. Though I do wonder as well how much he participates in UI or packaging design. We know he designed Eve in WALL•E, we also know he designed many of the iPod packaging. Anything else?

Isn't it obvious why they dropped "Worldwide"? Apple is preparing to enter the space market, so "worldwide" was too restrictive. :D

I imagine someone would be promoted to the COO role sometime as well? (I'm thinking Williams seeing he's already SVP for Operations)

Not necessarily. Less than half of Fortune 500s have a COO. I think the only reason Cook got the title was because it became apparent Steve's health was bad and they were grooming him to become CEO.

There's a good chance there won't be another COO for a while.
