What could someone possibly need to tweet from iTunes? Are people really so self absorbed that they think other people need to know what song they are listening to in real time?

itunes will never become relevant in social if it's not a webapp. No one is going to try and open up itunes, wait a minute for it to do so just to click twitter buttons.

If itunes was a website i could see it gaining some serious social traction but not as a "program" you need to download to your computer.

Lucky for Apple, none of the big player competitors (Google Play and Amazon) really have any relevant social interactions, either. I would love a stripped down web app to compete with Spotify and the like.

If you don't like it, don't login. Just quit whining about it.

I think that the complaint is that Apple is focusing so many resources on children buy-in that they are ignoring the professionals and power users that use Apple products for business and serious needs. Like where's my new Mac Pro?

I have a great suggestion for apple. How about focussing on getting some quality professional desktops out to your long time users. I have been using and praising apple products for over 18 years. I went through all their tribulations. They care more about stupid twitter crap and swiping through tabs on web browsers than actually writing decent graphic drivers and building machines that don't contain 2-3 year old hardware laptop parts in them.

It is getting bad for professionals. Very bad.

I concur. Apple$oft.

Sweet. I basically use it as an RSS feed anyway to get news and updates.

I love it when people say, it's just a site for people to post what they had for lunch and rainbows.

They clearly are uninitiated.

So you don't post tweets? I thought that was the main purpose of the integration...to make it easier to send tweets out, not read them...

If life would be that simple... the button will probably stick in every second menue and cause you to accidentally tab it with the result that Twitter tires to sign you up. I have a Twitter account. I never use it. Works for me since it is used to sign in at some places. I still don't want to have it integrated. At least, if they integrate it, it would be nice if it stays out of everyhing unless you set it up otherwise. I guess we will see what happens. No way we would influence that anyways.

I agree! Like if you can turn the integration on or off. I would love that.

I think Apple's trying to change their immage from Professional Top Quality Equipment to Toy Store for Kids. There must be a lot more money by moving in that direction since there are more kids than professionals.

Of course I do. The key to Twitter is to follow things you're interested in and you'll find other followers doing the same. That way things stay relevant, and people aren't posting about their lunch (unless your into foodies). Twitter is what you make it.

Yeah... technology is no longer exclusive to scientists.

It's available to everyman.

Well, I for one, am enjoying the hell out of Twitter integration in Mountain Lion. Why is Apple doing this? Because Twitter is massively popular with over 500 million users. And soon they'll have Facebook integration (which has close to a billion users). It's the right way to go. The vast market is demanding it, even if the few vocal geeks aren't. That said, I will not be using Twitter integration in iTunes because that's not the kinds of things I want to tweet... but I'm sure a lot of users might. 500 million is a lot more people than Ping's numbers, I'm sure. Sorry, guys... there's a lot of people using this stuff and social is incredibly popular. Everything that is important to large numbers of people is going to find an expression through computers and the internet – and social networks are the "relationships" part. They're not going anywhere and Apple is right to jump on board. If anything, they should be nurturing the heck out of their relationships with Twitter and Facebook even more.

Why iTunes/Twitter integration?

Why would they want to integrate iTunes and Twitter given the huge success of Ping?
:D

iTunes is probably one of the most bloated applications ever. Apple should seriously consider a rewrite.

For example I have a Twitter account that's focuses on photography so I follow all sorts of photographers, software companies that make photography products, blogs that talk about photography, etc. I also have a Twitter account that's for more personal stuff, but I may convert that to a personal finance account and focus on that segment.

Of course you can follow whoever you want and chat with everyone, but that's more reserved for teenagers using it as a text message service (lol). I find guys like me need it to more focused and Twitter is so versatile that I can do that. I'm also into music, especially jazz, so I could make a Twitter for that as well, but I think having 2 accounts is enough for now.

people who hate on twitter/facebook are more annoying than the users itself.

because for whatever reason, they feel like the world revolves around them and they need to express their ignorant hate to every individual they come in contact with.

yes, you are ignorant if you hate on twitter/facebook. the fact that you can't figure out why they exist, or why they're successful, screams ignorance.

Apple doesn't need to buy Twitter and nor does Twitter need the investment money. They can keep working together and integrating which is good for both companies.

Yes, they exist primarily because there are many ignorant and/or narcissistic people who happen to have internet access:p

I wish Apple would partner with Microsoft (for once) to get Macs playing WMV and AVI encoded videos out-of-the-box without 3rd party add-ons. This is something the Mac has been lacking for years, you can basically only play .mov and .mp4 files with QuickTime, not AVI, XVid, DiVx, or WMV, ASF, or FLV.

It is 2012 and the technology is there....Apple should do something about this.

I have no more interest in Twitter than watching a bird over my yard.

Twit this

I cannot understand companies like Apple handing over control of a big chunk of the internet to likes of Twitter and even worst Facebook. As if Google's spying and constant tracking of everything we do is not bad enough there will soon not be a website that cannot be viewed without having an account in those 2 lame social media companies. This is not social media it is corporation using us a lab rats.

I like the Twitter integration in OS X, very useful for day to day use and once Facebook is added in there its a complete solution to a lot of daily tasks and makes the entire OS more social. Despite some of the negative press around Facebook's stock price lately and privacy issues, I only see social networks continuing to increase in importance.

You see how many big brands promote their Facebook and Twitter pages in Super Bowl ads, see how many big brands there are at http://www.buytwitterfollowersreviews.com that do nothing other than promote Twitter pages, see how much Facebook has dominated the overall culture, etc. This is a very fascinating time for any business that is trying to use social media because of how many options there are.

I guess Apple has to be careful not to over-do it though. While I like minor integration in the OS in certain places with these social networks, I don't want to see any more bloat in iTunes though - that's a sore point with a lot of people I think.

God I hate twitter and all it is. Please Apple don't integrate it into iOS, at least not without being able to turn it all off!!
