The invitation states "Mum is no longer the word" and invites media to a press conference on Tuesday, September 18th at 10am.

Macworld.co.uk speculates that this could be an announcement for the European iPhone launch or possibly UK iTunes content.

Apple had previously said that they plan on announcing details about the European iPhone launch by the end of this month,

That was my guess too (chatting about it with my other half yesterday). Although it's still more than it should be I think I'd be happy with that. If they try and pull £300 they can **** off.

The fanboy in me will ultimately stump up the £300 if it came out at that price.

:(

I'm just keen to see what they are going to charge. By rights it should be £200, but of course it won't be. Just how much will we be ripped off?

iPhone in the States - $399
iPod Touch 16GB in the States - $399
iPod Touch 16GB in the UK - £269

So I am going to shoot for £250.

Exactly the same logic I've been using over the price. A lot better since the price cut in the States as I was definitely expecting a £350 iPhone...

I wish I had the resolve to stick to that, but I'm a weak, weak man so I'd end up paying for it

I've been tempted by some 8GB iPhones from the States as the weak dollar makes then around £160-180, but must resist..... not long now. Apple is going to get a pretty penny from me over the next 3 months - new MBP, iPhone and an iPod classic

Please be iPhone, please be iPhone, please be iPhone, please be iPhone, please be iPhone, please be iPhone, please be iPhone, please be iPhone, please be iPhone, please be iPhone, please be iPhone, please be iPhone... :D

They are really hurtling through the announcements now, after a loooong period of silence. Makes me wonder what they'll have left for the Paris Expo (assuming there's a keynote!?)

Ya, after Leopard comes out they arent going to have anything for 6 months.

Ok, maybe not.

For the benefit of some forum members who speak English as a second language, the idiomatic expression "Mum's the word." means "Don't tell anybody."

In German, Mum is no longer the word! translates to Endlich weitersagen!

Thanks a lot, I did wonder what this sentence could mean...

I knew it would be soon, but I was expecting the announcement at the Paris expo the week after.

I wonder when they will release the phone itself?

Iphone

After reading this it got me thinking.

It would make sense for Apple to announce the iPhone and the carrier of choice in each country. That way the CEOs can get up and spout on about how excited they are to be working with Apple etc etc.

With this announcement a week before the Paris date, it is possible there could also be another announcement in Germany the week after the Paris date or not long after. Nov 12 seems too far away though..

I would like for this to be the iphone, i think it makes sense given the UK itunes video content is already available (others have suggested it will be to annouce this). I'm going away for 2 weeks on the weekend so hopefully they'll still have iphones in stock when I return as I already have $$$ set aside for one.

Happy pondering
