Apple Unveils New Mac Studio With M5 Max and M5 Ultra Chips

Upgrade time! It's a painful $3299 for my configuration, but I should be able to get something for my M2 Studio to offset that cost.

EDIT: I just noticed that Apple has reduced the base graphics cores down to 32 (instead of 38). But if you up the cores to 40, that automatically increases your RAM to 48 gb for "free". I wanted 2 tb of storage, so now my cost is a whopping $3899.

Too hot, draw too much power. The laptop would need to be a seriously chunky tank, otherwise we're back to the bad of bays of post 2016 intel MacBook Pros.

I'd have bought a month ago myself, but seems I've managed to talk myself out of needing one for a while longer and did up the garden instead, long live the M1 Pro macbook 😂

I hope Apple read these forums and see how people react to astronomically ridiculous pricing.

Not via apple. My almost 8k system is priced with apple at a mere £800 which is laughable. They offered me that price when they still sold the system brand new on their site for 8k. More depreciation than a car.

This car-priced fully loaded Mac Studio might be the one for him. I admire his patience on this. Without AppleCare or added software the fully loaded M5 Ultra here is €20,779 ($24,255).

Keep in mind, the 512 GB model wasn't available when I calculated this. That will cost more.

Apple trade-in prices are ridiculous. It's simply convenience. Selling second-hand privately will get you a far better return.

That would be wasteful for key buyers who want it for the CPU/GPU/RAM dimensions and don't need any extra local/internal storage. Adding $300 or even $200 to the price would have hurt at the low-end.

Granted probably only would have cost them $100 in build costs. On the flip side, it may have constrained production elsewhere given the supply crunch (i.e. there simply isn't surplus NAND/SSD to go around).

Apple upgrade program exists. Apple will not/does not care. They will tell you, you can pay for 24 or 36-months

I got an M4 Studio last year and was curious as to what a similarly configured M5 was this year and the price has gone up $700 - ouch. I'll be waiting for the M6 before seriously thinking about an upgrade.

Unfortunately that's not Apple - that is all manufacturers that use any type of RAM. The hyperscalers have bought out the entire production capacity for RAM for the next two years so the consumer prices are through the roof because of relative scarcity.
