Yes, there are times when people need two ports. The phrase "there are times" implies that it is a minority of the time. So why would you force the port on the machine 100% of the time when you only need it occasionally. And for some people those times are almost nonexistent.

That is why I have a USB-C to USB 3 hub in my bag for those (extremely) infrequent times when I do need it.

If you need that second port often enough to need to have it included, you picked the wrong machine.

that is quite a strong word that implies you would somehow be worse off with another port. would be interested in hearing how exactly you come to that conclusion.

of course if you just mean in the general everything we dont specifically ask for or need is forced upon us then i know what you mean because the eject button on my keyboard is something i dont use and it probably cost a bit as well.

Rose Gold in the notebook is actually beautiful. Just wish their assembly was equally as beautiful.

Here's something I hadn't thought about ... They're offering iPhone and iPad complimentary colors, but not the contrasting trim.

In other words, here's gold with black keyboard and black bezel that gold iPhone and iPad customers have been asking for -- and it looks good. And rose gold with black.

So why not have white keyboards and bezels just like the iPhone and iPad? The original white MacBook had white keyboards and bezels for years. Is this just a cost saving measure or is Jony Ive somehow saying that the color choices on the iPhones and iPads don't matter on the MacBook and vice versa?

Just seems odd and inconsistent for Apple, when they are essentially the exact same product.

Now I suppose that the Watch makes the exception to this rule, but one has to wonder why there aren't white bezels on at least some of the Sport models (other than Apple doesn't usually offer multiple color choices on first year models). So maybe the device does dictate appropriate color pairing.

But I would definitely like to see a Rose gold MacBook with a white bezel and keyboard. It looks too 80s for me paired with the black.

This masterpiece of machinery wont look as nice if it has more than 1 USB-C ports

How do you figure that, when in fact it will look more symmetrical if the 3.5mm headphone jack is replaced by a mirrored USB-C port?

I'd get an iPad pro over this. Gonna wait for the MacBook Pro update at WWDC for more ports & power. But that's just me.
...yeah but that super crappy iOS would send you running for a real computer. Apple needs a response to the Surface book....but margins not innovation is the driver

I was tempted but one port for everything put me off. Not trying to walk around with an expense dongle.

I was tempted too to replace my 2011 MBA.

But $1500 price tag in Canada. 1 port. and extremely heavy thermal throttling (at least on last years model) was a turn off.

I'll wait for the next MacBook Pro for a few hundreds more. I don't want to update for 3-4 years. If I liked Windows, I could get a i7 6th gen with qhd screen for the price of this MacBook.

Yup.

Canadian prices:

the Base 13" rMBP is the same base price at the 12" rMB.

13" rMBP: $1,549 - Intel i5 w/ 8GB 1866Mhz DDR3. 128GB SSD, iris 6100 graphics, 10 hours battery life, and all the expansion ports, with proper cooling (no throttling).
12" rMB: $1,549 - Core M3, 8gb, 256gb storage. HD Graphics 515 and a single USB-C port.

when posed with those two, despite the sapce/ weight savings / the rMB is not worth $1549. considering the 11" MacBook Air has nearly identical form factor as the MB, but has the better keyboards, more ports, better CPU, better battery life etc, Intel HD 6000, and can be bought for as low as $1099. even upgrading to 8gb ram, the MBA 11" is still only $1,219.

This is one confused product category for Apple right now. With weird overlaps. All for a laptop that really doesn't have anything truly uunique to differentiate other than "OMG LOOK how microscopically smaller it is than the other previously smallest laptoP!"

This laptop needs to drop $200-$300 before it's worth it.

I thing the 12 inch serves the needs of those that don't mind using a beautiful $1300 machine to type and browse the Internet. My last Mac was the 2012 MacBook air with 8gb menory. Lovely machine. But I can't deal with the low red screen anymore. I need retina. Lol.

I know what the purpose of it is supposed to be. But I feel like Apple is trying to invent that purpose. They already had a beautiful, thin, light, and powerful laptop that hits 10 hours battery life, while not sacrificing the ports or performance that starts at 899 US. They could have put a retina display on the 11" MBA and still hit the exact target of the rMB hits, For everyone whose screaming how much more portable the rMB is, likely never once had a MBA 11" to comprae it to. And the size difference is so neglible, there's not a single place you're going to store / carry / use a rMB you couldn't also do the exact same with the MBA.

It makes the rMB feel like a vanity item. "if youre rich and want a highly comrpomised, but EXPENSIVE LAPTOP! THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT TO BE SEEN USING!"

Agree. Expensive device for spreadsheets and emails. How can a newer more expensive device have weaker processing power than a cheaper older device. But here we are with the MacBook and MacBook Air.
