Does the new update allow the screen to always remain on, or do still have to press a button to get the screen to turn on? If I had a watch I would want to always see the face, and not have to press button first.

I did the update, went through all the settings looking for the setting that keeps it always on and, unless I am missing something, there is no setting for this so it does not let you leave the screen on and you still have to press the button. If somebody does find a way to do this, please post it.

That's so very cool. Back pre-iPhone the iPods used to get a bunch of software updates in their lifespans. I really am pleased to see that this hasn't totally stopped. It's the first time I've felt it would be cool to get an iPod of any sort since the iPhone came about!

i'd so love one just for the watch function - how awesome would an iWatch be with all those changeable face designs!!!!

Interestingly, I bought the "new" nano yesterday, but found it still had the old 1.1 UI. I was able to update, but I was surprised that Apple was selling a nano that didn't look exactly like their display models. Generally, they do a good job of ensuring the display models match exactly what they sell you.

Not a big deal, but I was a bit confused at first until I realized the older (identical) models get the new 1.2 update.

Really, if you think about it, the only thing missing from the Nano is bluetooth. For some reason they didn't want to add it this year.
I was thinking that they could actually add a Wi-Fi radio to the nano, but not include Safari. I have no idea how it would actually work, but the idea was you could connect it to your home Wi-Fi network and thus it could get your stored iCloud music.

I also wish the iPod touch and iPhone would have a built-in FM radio, like the nano.

Nope, not possible. And, unlike other iOS devices, there doesn't even appear to be an option for how long the display is on before turning off. Seems the non-changable setting is around a minute or so.

Refurbished 2010

Getting a refurbished "2010" from Apple and applying the software update will in effect get you a 2011 for $20 less than the newly released and reduced units.

And the battery would drain ridiculously fast... The display is the most power draining thing on the device, with it always on you'll need to charge twice a day.

I've had trouble getting the Nike+ part to work. First time out, I couldn't get the remote to link. Second time out, the sensor stopped linking. Third time out and everything worked except I can't get the workout to sync with the Nike+ website.

I think I'll go back to my even older Nano with the Nike+ receiver (for the remote control) and Nike+ Sportband. It least it worked and synced every time.

I mean, now that I'm a certified lab rat, running a maze for progress on the colored bar on Nike+. I should get credit for all the miles I put it...

I thought about getting the Nike+/Tomtom GPS device but have heard some no too good things about it. I've given up my Garmin because I couldn't find a way to get the runs into Nike+ and spent a mint on that unintuitive device... (Talk about a turd. That damn Garmin thing drove me nuts!)
