As already discussed, that's a high-risk activity, so don't expect the anti-malware to protect you. As I said:

I encourage you to read the Mac Virus/Malware Info link I posted.

I read that when I first joined, and it was super helpful, thanks! However I have a question... it lists three anti malware tools of which it says not to use. The "proper" one is apparently ClamXav. Is that the best one to use?

Also, I have a slightly off topic question about your other (super helpful) guide to removing programs from your Mac. I was a through and through PC guy, so I'm used to uninstalled programs leaving traces around your computer in places such as the registry. If I uninstall with Finder using your method is everything gone? Slightly embarrassing question seeing as I'm a computer major, but Mac's are confusing or not confusing enough, I'm not sure... thanks :p.

... ClamXav. Is that the best one to use?
ClamXav is a good choice. It's free, doesn't put a high demand on system resources, doesn't run with elevated privileges... and it's free.

Yes, unless there's an app component that doesn't have the same name as the app. That's why you sort and search for other items installed at the same time. The good news is there's no registry in Mac OS X, so if you miss something, in most cases it only means some disk space is consumed.
