I also remember a piece of software called First Row? that brought all your music, vids in one place and had a carousel like interface. I'm sure this came out before the original Apple TV too.

Front Row was great! I used to rip my DVDs as disc images - Front Row could handle those nicely. Now I have to take the extra, time-consuming step of extracting any DVD or Blu-Ray content I want to keep into separate video files... and occasionally that's not even possible with particular extra features (like some types of slideshows).

Hopefully I’ll get to stay at home here in key Largo and watch this (most likely after work as I always do) as I am excited for it. Blasted Irma and her nefarious Android loving ways! It’s all a Damsung ploy to detract from the goodness that is the extendable will of Uncle Jobs!

When I bought the original Apple TV imo it was ahead of its time.

I don't know about others but I feel Apple haven't advanced the platform and now been taken over by the competition.

However I also think the biggest issue has been the movie/ tv industry not letting Apple have their way and dominate like they did with music.

Here's hoping Apple can finally move forward and innovate again but I hold my breath with TC on charge.

Front row, used to come on the macs, they bundled the little white remote with them too :/) I think it was the default ui on the original Appletv

Personally I'm not looking forward to the incessant cheerleading that occurs far too often and on cue from employees (& their spouses) in the front row as shown in every Apple presentation.

It's boring and kinda sad to see, forcing other attendees to cheer and applaud. We should not need to have Studio tv lights to coerce applause and praise for Apple's products and services. Let the praise be genuine please Apple.

I haven't seen a compelling reason to upgrade my Apple TV 3. It's still chugging along, has the apps I want and let's me stream from my own computer.
I agree. Have two ATV3's and ATV2's. All four work fine for showing my iTunes contents. If it wasn't for all my iTunes contents probably never use them again. I think the current version is way too expensive for what it does. The next version will have 4k compatibility but again no doubt we would have to pay a premium to watch these movies anyway.

All depends how heavy you are in the iTunes eco system I suppose.
