On a serious note, I just played a DVD with my MacBook 2.2 with 4GB ram and didn't get a kernel panic.

Apparently that was a 10.5.3 fix

Really weird... I can open iDVD after the update, but no windows appear, and I have to force quit the app. Anybody else experiencing this?
