Apple released a new version of the free iPhone SDK which now includes Interface Builder.

Interface Builder is a tool for developers to visually create their user interface:
Interface Builder is Apple's graphical editor for designing user interface components for both Carbon and Cocoa applications. Interface Builder makes creating an application's user interface easier by allowing developers to use its graphical editing environment to manage virtually every aspect of creating a well designed user interface that adheres to the Aqua user interface guidelines.
Apple released the first version of the iPhone SDK on March 6th.

More guidelines? Theyre sooooo controlling!

How is this controlling? They offer an "Easy to use" thing that you CAN use if you want and it's controlling?

More like they're offering an easier way to code an interface to allow more developers novice and pro alike to rapidly and easily create tools for iPhone. I fail to see how this is controlling.

The OSX HID guidelines were in place way before this tool was released.

Edit: Besides, guidelines (when referring to them) are just that GUIDELINES, not actual rules. It's like the Pirate Code :D (ba-dum pishhhh)

i'm looking at the old SDK and i've already got interface builder... and i hadn't previously installed the dev tools

Apple rarely conforms to its own HI guidelines these days, why should anyone else?

Very cool. Will be interesting to see how flexible the interface builder is. For better or worse, I have painful memories of the bean box model in java where it was great for demo-ware but to build compelling applications it was a toy.

I am guessing not the case here but will be interesting to see what members of the board chime back with.

Regards.

I have the orig. sdk, do i have to re-download and install the new one to get the Interface Builder? Is the other one going to stay on my computer and take up mem.?

The servers are getting massacred. That, however, is very interesting this time round.

When the SDK was announced there were over 100K downloads. Normally I'd guess that 80% of them would be the "I wanna code for the iPhone -> I don't have time right now -> Jeez, this stuff is taking up 2.1GB of my drive, better delete it" types.

So, who's downloading the SDK now? Are there *really* that many iPhone Devs?

Is this because of current server issues, or is my free developer account insufficient for this download?

I logged in okay, but it is crazy slow.

To clarify: the logging in/web page was slow. The SDK itself is downloading at 700+KB/sec. decently fast.

I just paid my $99.99 (plus tax) today, so I'm an official iPhone developer. I've been an unofficial mac developer for a lot of years. I started in the OS 8 days with codewarrior

Yeah, I got those same errors, but everything is working fine now. My download speeds are going insane though. Probably a combination of Apple's servers being overloaded and the fact that I work on a college campus where 6,000 people are constantly logging on and off. Ugh.

Haven't they got an update for the Software Update from Mac OSX itself? I think that would be way more efficient then downloading the whole SDK again! The servers have crashed already. They can do this way better!

But on the other side good news, more features the better!

And who is rating this negative again... Anti-Apple kids? Go somewhere else shoo shoo.

Also, the simulator has changed from 'Aspen Simulator' to 'iPhone Simulator'

Group contacts too?
