The product pages in the App Store do say that the 14.5 updates include bug fixes and performance improvements. I don't want to believe I just wasted downloading and installing almost 2 GB worth of data just to tell me that a new version is available.
Well, sure, maybe bug fixes and improvements at best on top of the pop-up directing you to version 15+ if you want new features going forward.

It's the end of the road for new features on that track of the apps.

On the Mac, both subscribers and non-subscribers need the Apple Creator Studio version 15+ now to get any new features going forward, including free ones, or they can keep using version 14.5 and it'll just start to age as-is beyond maybe some bug fixes/security patches over the years.

Considering how vitriolic the response to Liquid Glass has been, promoting it as a "feature" in the update notes is a choice.

Right? I don't have a ton of feelings either way about Liquid Glass—can take it or leave it, but opening the article to see the list of changes and having the first change for all of them be "Experience a new, more fluid way to work on [x] with Liquid Glass" made me laugh outloud.

Apple really does revel in its own self-caricature these days.

ANOTHER workload is getting moved over to my Linux box on LibreOffice....

The App Store now list two different versions of these products. Not confusing at all:
  • Pages and Pages 14.5
  • Numbers and Numbers 14.5
  • Keynote and Keynote 14.5
So 14.5 is for older OSes now and the normal Pages, Numbers Keynote is the version for latest OS releases. So if you are running macOS 26, you need to update to 14.5 then uninstall and then install the new versions.
Yes makes total sense apparently (it's NOT what Apple said at all, but I noticed all the new apps are Universal Apps and are 1 app for all the OSes, iOS, iPadOS, macOS).

In the original iPad Air introduction video Craig proudly told us that "iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband, Keynote, Pages and Numbers are available for free because we believe with these amazing apps on this amazing device the possibilities of what you can create is limitless"

What's going on in Cupertino. This feels like the start of a worrying trend....

Apple took a product that wasn't making them much money anymore (because they gave it away to Mac accounts for free) and got greedy so changed it so they could milk more money out of you.

Personally, I thought having iWork go from $79 to free was a misstep. Not just for Apple itself (the iWork apps do have value), but also a bad signal for third parties.

Kind of wish there were a smaller subscription tier here, though.

The new versions don't seem to be much of an improvement over 14.5 and they have ads for the "premium" subscription, which is annoying. Maybe Apple should focus on macOS instead of releasing more half baked software. Sadly alternatives are rare, at least usable ones.

The prompt might be because you have both apps installed. I only have 14.5 installed and the prompt only appears once.
The apps are great on iOS, but I hate the Bug Sur unified title bar UI with document apps. They unified the codebase with the new iWork apps and so they have inherited that "new" design.

This is a textbook example of adding cosmetic touches to mature apps and converting them into a subscription-based product, solely for the purpose of creating additional corporate revenue with no increase in product value or functionality. For years I've told friends and family that Apple products justified their price premium because you didn't pay again and again for the OS and basic productivity apps. That was one of the foundations of Apple's reputation. Obviously that's no longer the case. They're clawing for revenue and perfectly willing to gouge their captive customers to do it. Just like every other tech giant. When they cave in on privacy the last shred of their reputation will be gone. It's a matter of when, not if.

I remember when it first came out and I tried every version. It’s not bad for basic illustrations, but it still feels like a cartoon version of Microsoft Office. 🤷‍♂️

I honestly don't mind them charging for the AI features in Pages, Number & Keynote. I just don't understand why they don't have skinny bundles for the people who only want the old iWork apps and for the people that only want the creative apps. I have no need or desire to ever use Final Cut, Logic, Motion, etc, so I'm out on the subscription to avoid the bloat I don't need. I'm sure eventually they will pivot to maximize revenue and offer some breakout like that after their attempts to maximize subs on the front end from people who want the features regardless of the cost. But in the interim it seems like a hole in the subscription offering.

So far, it looks like they’ve updated everything except Freeform. On iOS, I’m sure it will come as an update through the App Store, but on macOS I wonder whether it will be pushed via a system update, since it’s a built-in app and not available on the Mac App Store.
