Syncing email

Is there any way to get Mobile Me to sync email between my iPhone and my MBP? When I read an email on one device, I would like it to show as read on the other device. It is a pain and a waste of time to have to constantly open and close emails on my iPhone to get them to show as read when I have already read them on my laptop or vice versa.

yes

as long as you are connected to the Internet, then this should happen automatically. MobileMe is an IMAP service, which keeps all the emails on a server (with Apple), so when you make a change on one device (i.e. iPhone), then ALL OTHER DEVICES that have MobileMe setup (i.e. MPB) should receive that change, assuming they are ON and connected to the Internet (if they are not on, then they'll get the change once they turn on and connect to the Internet). MoblieMe has been IMAP since the beginning (2001), so if this is not happening on your device, then there's something wrong.

It's not instant, but it should update fairly quickly (within minutes).

I have found that often the iPhone won't update until I go into the Inbox (I don't have to look at the emails, just enter the Inbox, and then it will receiver any changes I've made from my laptop or desktop machine).

Sounds like you're using POP3 email instead of IMAP. Use IMAP - then each device is just a gateway to your mail online.

If the email account you're accessing doesn't offer IMAP, then you could have MobileMe pull in your POP email, and then you would just access your me.com account, which uses IMAP.

It would be good if one Mac could synch to two MobileMe accounts to take into account two iPhones, one Mac scenario.

Hey, Apple, how about focusing some of this energy on giving us what most users really need, like CUT&PASTE...

Well those of you still whining about cut-n-paste please take it outside? There's plenty of other threads for you to complain in!

If you want to sync the same information to two different phones, why not just use one MobileMe account? That way you can do exactly what you seem to want to do (same information on one Mac, two iPhones).

Apple, enough with all the unnecessary transparent updates!!! Bring on the new iDisk Public Folder and the cursed Sharing Feature for MM's sake!!!

Hopefully Apple will get MobileMe to point where the Address Book functions/capability are exactly for the Address Book, MobileMe and the iPhone/touch. That would be nice.

Really! :(

You should be able to do the same actions be it in the Address Book, MobileMe on the web, and iPhone/touch. We aren't there yet!

That's the truth.

At least Apple is working on making it better.

I wonder if the Calendar colors work now? Need to give that a try and see.

The colors don't work yet. Most annoying and frustrating to me though is the fact that subscribed calendars still don't work on the iPhones so my wife and I have to hard sync our phones to have one anothers calendars.

Both of those really do need to show up soon. MobileMe will be a year old by the time they get around to it!

Why bother

Why anyone would buy/subscribe to such a broken feature.

Juust look at the countless of videos on youtube. People annoyed with mobile me and saying how apple (surprise surprise) won't give them refunds.

I will never get mobile, I'd love to get it but lets face it boys n girls, it'll never work!!!

Works for me just fine. :)

Actually better that ever compared to the release date. :)

and yet

I must say that the service is very good and I love the applications. I have had few problems with it.

The big let down for me is that I cannot access my email alias address from the iphone, making it almost worthless to me. You cannot even reply from that same address let alone send a new email.

Very big oversight on Apple's part. Selling a service they don't support.

In general, MobileMe's worked great for me. But ... surprisingly after I upgraded to the Family Pack expecting to share calendars with my wife, I discovered one thing you can't do is share a calendar between 2 MobileMe accounts without gerry-rigging some non-MobileMe solution (Google) together. You can't even synch subscribed calendars.
