... At this point, MacWhispers rates a neutral rating, as does MacRumors. The only rumor site that I have a fair amount of confidence in is ThinkSecret. TS has had a remarkable record, but the also don't publish that much.

TS has been wrong in some cases too. MacRumors has been very right in some ways: Arn stuck to his guns on the Powerbook Superdrive, even tho TS and others said it wasn't happening - and MacRumors was right. Also MacRumors had the 17" and 12", and nobody else did.

That being said, I like MacRumors more as a central collation site for gathering and discussing rumors gleaned from a variety of sources. If anyone says it anywhere (e.g. MacBidouille), you can find it here, along with fairly cogent analysis, fairly intelligent discussion, and coordination with other sources.

Most of us tend to be dismissive of the mini-tablet rumors. Given that Apple outsources all production, there just isn't sufficient evidence to give this story legs. As for the wireless displays, ViewSonic is selling these in CompUSA today - or rather, they are offering them, at fairly astonishing prices. I don't think that that technology is ready for the rest of us.

I've read a couple of reviews on the Viewsonic. No on thinks that the idea is bad but that the problems are generally - terrible set-up/configuration, locking out the main computer when in use, terrible wireless connection protocols (it was finding other wireless points in range other than the host computer and trying to connect to them!), and clunky design, and it's more expensive becuae it only runs with XP Pro so it too is included in the price.

Apple already has all the solutions to these probems, and more. If anyone can make this work it's Apple - 'cause they design the hardware AND the software.

Well, I'm not familiar with the MacTable fiasco, and your link brought up a 404 error. Some time back Jack posted an explanation that his means of being critical of his sources jumped up dramatically after he posted a few rumors that turned out to be wrong (or something like that). At this point, MacWhispers rates a neutral rating, as does MacRumors. The only rumor site that I have a fair amount of confidence in is ThinkSecret. There was a period in the url. http://www.macintouch.com/mactable.html This link will tell you all you need to know about Jack Campbell. I was quite disgusted at his brazenness after reading this.

Some possibilities. 1)The machine he saw is one that's already released (17 inch PB for example) and he mistook it for a 15 inch PB. 2) He made it up. 3) This is a prototype of some sort that is an evolutionary dead end and does not represent a future product.

There is no way Apple would let out a 15 inch PB at this point in the game. It just wouldn't get outside of the locked up engineering lab.

New eMacs tomorrow!

It's the only thing that could follow last week's announcement. New Powerbooks would be too big and would have probably been combined with the iPods/music store. It's too early for the switch to 970s and most everything else has been updated recently. Plus, this is about the time of year to announce new edu aimed computers (it was about a year ago that they were first announced).
If you're excited about new eMacs though, you are lame (I can say that, I own one).

Birthday boy

Apple lists the eMac as shipping in 30 days; way out of stock if you ask me. Alternately, the PowerBook shows shipping "same day," so it's unlikely the PB 15-inchers will get an update tomorrow. :(
