Mine have updated, I listened to some music then put them in the case on top of my iPad. Connected airpods to charger, but forgot to switch it on, but they updated with being on charge, iPad not charging either.

I'm stuck on 2A364 and no matter what I do, connect disconnect, power to the case, make sure WIFI is connected, etc, I cannot force this update. And does the Airpod case and the iPhone have to be plugged into power at the same time? I cannot believe that Apple has no instructions on this. :(

Try this:
1) Connect your AirPods to your iPhone, listen to something;
2) Put the AP into their charging case, close its lid and plug the AP charging case into the socket, as you do when you charge them. Leave your WiFi connected iPhone next to them.
3) Let your iPhone and the AP sit quietly for about 15 minutes.

This is all I did to update mine. 🖐

probably not your AirPods (unless the are filthy). More likely interference, or a problem to decompression/conpression from Spotify

you cannot force the update, what is the problem with that, seriously?

I figured it out. Both devices MUST be plugged into power at the same time. I got another lightning cable from the car and now it initiated the update. I think you must also have your iPhone connected to WIFI all at the same time. Normally I don't have them both wired to power at the same time, but apparently that is necessary. I do think that Apple should release a document about this at the very least so that everybody can be using the same firmware. It makes it much easier to diagnose an issue if everyone is on the latest firmware.

My 2nd-gen Airpods have been acting funny lately.

The left Airpod sometimes doesn't work and has seemingly disappeared... as shown below. But sometimes it works and the right Airpod disappears.

I've deleted them and re-connected... but it's still the same. Very strange. Are they broken?

It wouldn’t be a Spotify issue if toggling Bluetooth solves it since Spotify doesn’t directly talk to the AirPods, it goes through iOS. iOS is responsible for compressing the audio stream and then transmitting it to the AirPods (or any other BT headset). So it's either on the iOS side or the AirPods side.

Ive had crackling issues occasionally that iOS updates cause/resolve. 13.5b4 seems pretty good about it though. We’ll see how this new firmware is. Only listened a little bit so far but haven’t had issues.

I'd delete them, reboot ALL your iCloud connected devices ensuring they're not showing the AirPod's being paired. clean out the bottom of the Left AirPod as well as within the case. Then re-pair and try. If not time to check in with Apple Support.

I hope it fixes the crackling problem so I don’t have to turn Bluetooth off and on all the time to fix it.
I'm still getting the "crackling" issue when using noise cancelling or transparency. It seems to be significantly less "poppy" more "scratchy". Works fine when in the "off" setting. Overall a small but noticeable improvement.

The firmware update brought back the noise cancellation function for my iPod Pro which was almost non-existent on the last iteration.

I connected to my phone, put them back in the charging case, and charged them, and they updated.

Wonder if this fixes the no-warning battery dead issue, I.e. it USED to be that I’d get the low-battery warning at around 10% or whenever it was, so I’d have enough time to switch AirPod when on a call. At some point this changed and now it just makes that sound and then the AirPod is out of battery IMMEDIATELY after. Mega annoying!

I’m on 2C54. I think it’s funny how they drive some people crazy that they can’t manually do an update for something that they don’t know what it does 😂

Because forced "random" updates is such a good idea! Who doesn't want their devices bricked, like with the pulled update, just before you board the plane or an important meeting! Having your device getting screwed up at random times is half the fun!

I've noticed that recently, I thought maybe it was battery fade or I'd just not noticed the first warning but now that you mention it, it has happened several times. I think it started for me around the time of the last iOS update, so I'm wondering if it's actually iOS that sends out the battery warning sounds? It would certainly simplify the innards of the AirPods and save on battery life.

Upgraded ok for me.

Played a song via the Airpods and then put them on charge. 20 mins later, checked and firmware installed.

Love my AirPods Pro. I take Apple's R&D for granted sometimes. AirPods Pro fit snuggly in my ears; I don't miss the time spent storing / unwinding EarBuds and Nokia earphones; being tether free to place my iPhone / Nokia down and wander off; they are so small and compact that I can wear them whilst sleeping (I'm a stomach / face down sleeper [like a cat]) plus their portability with sliding into a pocket is an important benefit; audio quality is very good; noise cancellation is brilliant - being able to lose myself in a crowd (coupled with dark lens sunglasses) and reduce background heavy vehicle traffic by approximately 80%; they are stylish - looking almost like a device from a science fiction movie; connectivity to my Apple Watch is a bonus when I just want music, leaving my iPhone off and in my work locker or at home. Next evolution for Apple AirPods Pro I can foresee: double the battery charge time and an eSIM with access to mobile carrier data for streaming Apple Music.

Ok, just been testing them with some familiar songs, and there is definitely more weight to the bass than before. The Cars 3 trailer is a good example. They were quite bass light before. I think Apple has EQ'd them slightly. What does everyone think?

My AirPods now sound louder with this new firmware, could just be me...IDK. Hopefully this fixes the issue my left AirPod has had in the past few months where it wouldn't connect, then I'd have to put both AirPods back in the case and take them out again for the left one to connect to my iPhone...

I've checked and I'm also on 2D15. If anyone had problems with a single AirPod connecting, this appears to be resolved. For example, in bed, I usually just put one AirPod in to list to my podcasts as I lay on my side. It was so frustrating when the left AirPod simply wouldn't connect and it would take a ton of fiddling (left and right), to eventually get it to connect as a single earpiece.

Since the update, this appears to be working flawlessly, but this could be a fluke and I'll come back again if I have the same problem.

A week after releasing a new firmware update for the AirPods Pro, Apple has pushed the same firmware to the second-generation AirPods, updating them from the previous 2A364 firmware to the new 2D15 firmware.

Apple didn't make it clear what's new in the refreshed firmware at this time, and AirPods Pro owners had mixed reactions to the update, with some saying that it improved Active Noise Cancellation and others finding that it did not.

The second-generation AirPods don't have Active Noise Cancellation, so it's unknown what improvements are included in the firmware. AirPods firmware updates often provide performance improvements, bug fixes, and feature tweaks. This software update likely fixes the bug that caused some customers who were sent a replacement AirPod with unreleased firmware to be unable to use them as it should update the 2D3 firmware to 2D15, allowing them to once again be paired with existing AirPods.

You can check to see what firmware your AirPods have installed by following these steps:
  1. Make sure the ??AirPods?? are connected to your iOS device.
  2. Open the Settings app.
  3. Tap General.
  4. Tap About.
  5. Tap ??AirPods??.
  6. Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."
Apple hasn't provided explicit instructions to customers on how to initiate a firmware update, but activating the AirPods with audio and then putting them in the case and connecting them to a power source seems to be a reliable way of forcing an update.

Apple in December released the 2C54 firmware update, but later pulled it, so it's worth noting that some people who updated right away have the 2C54 firmware while others are still on 2A364.

These are useless because they fit poorly in most ears and there is nothing to hold them in place. Find earbuds that fits the ear canal and your experience with be better.

The update is painless. Just plug in your device (iPhone, iPad, etc.) to charge. Then plug the AirPods case to charge. Many say you have to be at 100% power, but mine worked at 69%. Open settings, click General, click about, click on your AirPods (scroll down to find). Make a note of the current firmware version. I opened the case with the AirPods in the case. After a couple minutes or so, they disappeared from my phone connection. After waiting a few minutes I closed the case and opened again. When I checked the firmware version is was the new updated version.

I go to settings > general > about and there is no ipods item...

I will be in the bluetooth section as long as they are connected. Hold the case near the iPhone and open it so that the iPhone sees them. then go to settings > general > about and scroll down to where you see bluetooth info, it will say AirPods. select that and it should be in there.

I knew I can't be the only one with this issue. It's super annoying and in my case sometimes the left AirPod would fail to connect, sometimes the right one would be the culprit. It was driving me crazy because the last thing I want to do when I rush out of the apartment in the morning to get to work and catch the tram is to put AirPods back into the charging case and pull them out again to initiate a new connection. I sincerely do hope this got fixed with this update as the whole world is slowly going back to business as usual and we start getting back to our offices soon-ish.
