I would guess that most people don't have a case on their phone. I'm sure many ordered their "free bumper", but don't use it.

Fascinating assumptions.

Perhaps it is absurd to order it and not use it - but my assumption is not. Folks like getting things for free. Of the 3 iPhone-4 users I spoke to about the "free bumper" program, 2 of them said "I'll order one in case I have a problem, but I don't really like the look/feel of it." Neither of them use their phone with a bumper.

It's not different than the mentality of an all-you-can-eat buffet. Folks put stuff on their plate, try it, decide they don't like it and don't finish it. Folks who would not have shelled out the money for a case will definitely try a free one and then toss it aside when they find it too bulky.

So while you think my assumptions are "absurd" are "fascinating", they are also true. It simply logical when you give something away for free. Folks will take whatever you will give them for free, but it does not mean they are going to use it. I see very few iPhone-4's in cases compared to the ones I see bare.

I had better look after my little wired keyboard then, it is perfect for my HTPC mini which lives under my TV, the keyboard just slips away out of sight. I don't see the need for a bluetooth one, there are so many wires under the TV another one doesn't hurt! Besides, I would be charging the batteries more often than I use the keyboard.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I've noticed a lot of comments about docking with a case. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but iSkin sells a dock extender designed so that you can keep a case on your phone and still dock it.

On the bottom left. $30.

I bought one for exactly the same reason. First problem, no delete key. How to enter the bios screen, which requires hitting DEL after POST?
My first Mac was a BlackBook, but I can't remember ever seeing BIOS screens or the POST display on a Mac...

Maybe you need this for a PC?

FWIW, Fn + delete (aka: backspace) works as a forward delete on a Mac keyboard, at least when used with Mac OSX.

Why...

…hasn't Apple ever re-designed the iDevice docks to take bumpers/covers into account? I realize it needs to be snug, but as most protectors are [generally] an average thickness, I would believe it not difficult to take that into account. I haven't used a dock since the early iPod days as those didn't require a cover.

I hadn't read this thread in a while, now I just noticed more comments on the same issue. Good to know I'm not the only one, and thanks for the links to docks that work with protectors. :)

Given the widely varying external dimensions of cases it would be nearly impossible to have a dock that would fit them all. BUT... Apple only makes ONE case, the Bumper. You would think that if nothing else, they would supply a dock insert that fit the one and only Apple case. :)

Because despite evidence-less proclamations to the contrary, the vast majority of folks interested in docking their phones don't use cases.

Great point. The fact is that every bumper or case maker would have to design their own dock, and that we can't even get Apple themselves to make one for their one bumper...

I realized that however I've used a dock with a smaller device and it didn't hinder its usage or cause any damage. Why does the dock have to match the device to its exact measurements? The device won't break off in the dock...

I have comments about people like that. But "pig farm" is the only one that doesn't look like **** here at MR. Do us all a favor, shoot those people.
