Why is it that when an AW ships from Apple, it seems to sit in China for up to three days before moving. You get all excited when that shipping notification shows up, only to spend three days refreshing the tracking site with zero movement. Waiting on my replacement space black after I received a damaged one, and Apple wouldn't let me upgrade the shipping, telling me it was already upgraded. Turns out it's the same standard shipping. Ugh. End of rant.

No way you are still waiting. How was the first damaged?

I wonder how the $509 refurbs look.

I received the first SB last Tuesday, and the replacement is supposed to be here Wednesday. So barely over a week from calling Apple and getting the replacement, which still isn't bad. It's just that the packages always seem to sit with UPS in China for several days before being flown out. It's maddening.

I made a thread about the damage. Tiny pin prick on the side of the case right out of the box. Definitely a very small ding in the metal of some kind. Not even that surprised it made it through QC. But just couldn't live with it. Crossing my fingers for the replacement.

Is it really just sitting in China? My recollection is that the original Chinese pickup point is about the first of three cities the Apple shipments go through to escape China. But I thought once it moved it was only about a day to a day and half before it made it out of the country...

Thing is they make the shipping label prior to it actually being given to the courier to take to the shipping warehouse/site.

I've also had an iPhone get on a plane from China, land in Alaska, then go back to China. It didn't really but the tracking from China to your country can be unreliable. Once it's in your country and left the point of the main warehouse (Like the next stop after Alaska, I was able to track it with accuracy), it'll likely be more predictable (At least for me here in the US it has been).

UPS has some of the most random shipping methods ever. However, they tend to be the most reliable, even with inclement weather or other delays. Hopefully this Watch turns out to be better than your last model.

It's just strange that I got the notification on the 13th saying it's in Shanghai and it's now like four days later with no change, and the scheduled delievery is day after tomorrow (1/18). I know that it might not accurately reflect exactly what's going on, but you'd think it would have had an update of some kind by now. Oh well, it'll get here when it gets here.
[doublepost=1484579620][/doublepost]Well, five minutes after posting the comment above they've updated the site showing a Shanghai departure scan. And delivery changed to Thursday from Wednesday. Fairly consistent with the last two packages I've seen go out.

UPS doesn't work on weekends. That is in effect even overseas. So if your package hits the departure port in China on Friday, it sits there until Monday (local, of course). I've seen this same phenomenon with other packages from other manufacturers.

No matter what upgrade you were to try to get it a slow coming out of China. Been this way for a long time.

All good points. Thanks for the input. And I guess China is pretty far from Richmond, VA, so there's that :)

It's hard to remember how lonely and crazy it used to feel, waiting for shipments from Apple back before I joined MR and could take comfort knowing there are other grown adults tracking packages while daydreaming about opening them, counting the hours, wondering about box dimensions, ...

Hugs everyone.

Amen

I know it seems daunting, but I used to obsess over the shipment tracker, too. I trained myself to stop looking, though, and I'm so glad I did. No more frustration, no more looking up Google Maps, flight tracker, highway routes, no more perplexion at seeing them land the item at one airport, only to see it taken to a processing depot further away from me, and then cruelly leaving it there overnight instead of putting it on a truck that same afternoon.

You can accomplish this, too.... just close that browser tab and your journey toward a happier future will begin.

This is sage advice for sure. I'll see if I can resist the urge to check for 24-48 hours.

Well, that didn't last long. I checked. It's in Alaska, and delivery now set for Wednesday.

I've had lots of packages that seem like that they will take longer to receive from UPS. My last purchase was the AirPods and they were initially delayed, then all of a sudden from China to my residence, was less than two days.
