People with common sense: “American companies clearly relied far too much on Chinese manufacturing, which created such an untenable situation after COVID. At least companies have now learned from their mistakes and will diversify supply chains away from China.”

Apple: “Hold my beer.”

I'm confused. Are you saying Apple, one of the most successful companies in the world, is having problems fulfilling orders for products ordered by its customers?

Which companies? Sources?

I’m starting to re consider my purchase of a China iPhone 12 this fall.

Yeah, you just keep fighting that battle and see where it takes you. In the meantime, I don’t need my Apple products increasing in price and I LOVE the blue skies around where I live. How about a little reminder: part of the reason The standard of living here is so much greater than over there is because we don’t have industrial parks all over the place. Maybe you should spend a week living over there and then let me know if you’d like to trade places with them.

And for Apple customers.

LOL. Yeah, I'm sure Apple takes every cost savings as an opportunity to maintain or even decrease its profit margins. Doesn't Tim Cook always say "From Apple according to its ability and to Apple according to its need"?

LOL. And of course you believe that Apple incurring a substantial cost for creating the infrastructure and moving assembly/test/fulfillment to an area with greater labor costs, will simply absorb those costs rather than passing them on through increased customer prices.

That's a real knee-slapper!

Apple closed all their retail stores cause of supply issues, it wasn't because of covid19

Ah...ok...whatever you say (probably had nothing to do with shelter-in-place orders in so many US states and countries).

And those same supply issues were probably the same reason Apple closed all of their non-retail facilities as well, where roughly 65,000 employees usually work.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe those that provide medical personal protective equipment or ventilators.

Then why are all of their products still available through their online store or through Amazon?

Sure, those that it's easy to pick up and move, who could be anywhere. I'm sure a handful of companies do fit that scenario.

Are there even any phones of any brand not made in China? I suspect that even a phone assembled outside China would have mostly Chinese parts. (just a guess). The other thing is a phone every few years is a tiny fraction of the things we consume made there as we've discovered many drugs, of some of which I require to stay alive. I think going forward China made products will have a stigma in many people's eyes and their buying decisions will change the market to some extent. Poisonous pet treats did major damage to the Chinese market share save the cheapest of the cheap at the dollar store or Walmart. It will be an interesting few years to be sure.

I’m saying Apple, among many other Western companies, have put far too many eggs in the “China” basket, which has had a multitude of (negative) implications.

Fine, so you prefer exploiting cheap overseas labour so you can enjoy both the lower cost goods and avoid the pollution from manufacturing frivolous consumer items.

USA! USA! USA! lol

As long as you don't mind the occasional export that's killed more people than your last few wars combined, carry on.

That's not a citation for "fact" you state that "Apple closed it's retail stores due to supply issues, not covid 19". You can't prove this as a fact. You can have that as an (probably incorrect) opinion however.

No gov agency ordered apple to close stores.
