I just purchased an Apple USB C power cable on Amazon (official, no 3rd party), and as I was unpacking it, the cable started leaving white powder all over my hands. It’s slightly sticky and has a faint paint/glue-like odor, though the odor is more pronounced inside the box than on the cable itself.

I wiped it down a few times, and it’s better but not perfect. The cable will still leave white powder streaks if I rub a dark cloth on it.

Other than this, the cable actually looks perfectly genuine, and so does the packaging.

Is this expected? I saw other people posting about this, so I’m wondering if I received a bad (or fake) cable, or if this is really what Apple quality has come to.

New Apple cables do leave a white residue when rubbed. I usually use a wet paper towel to wipe it.
Shedding white powder I've never seen that though.
