I just ordered mine because I plan to upgrade my 2012 soon. Not sure when but its good to order the parts ahead of time as I also ordered the USB-C to USB adaptor. How is this USB Super Drive? Is it reliable? Every once in a while I play audio CD's and DVD's so its good to have one because the newer MacBooks do not include one built in anymore.

Basically, I picked one of these 'Superdrives' up yesterday - brand new/sealed at a price level where I simply could not leave it on the shelf. Now that leaves me with two options. Use it or sell it. I'd like to maybe use it, but before opening it, I wondered if any of you guys have any knowledge of using one with a Windows/non-Apple computer.

Apple SuperDrives are egregiously overpriced and won't work on non-Apple computers.

Just get whatever cheap slimline drive at Amazon/etc. and tear up a $50 bill. That's the same as an Apple SuperDrive.

Optical drives have been commodity items for 10+ years, no reason to buy a name brand device.
