So, I ordered a 2.3/16/256 before the upgrade options were available.

I was gutted to hear that I could have also upgraded my SSD. Everyone is going on about the 2.3 v 2.6 debate and it is pretty conclusive the difference is minimal at best. I was, however, questioning whether I should have just upgraded to the top spec.

I explained to Apple how angry I was given I had a brand new machine which I couldn't open because a SSD upgrade feature was available. They offered to ship a 2.3/16/512 to be and also give me £50 store credit.

Thought I would share. Just a note, my machine wasn't opened(!)

Good to hear a positive customer support story for once.

Don't see why you didn't just go with 2.6/16/512 earlier if you wanted the space, since it's only $100 more than 2.3/16/512. Sounds like it worked out well though.

£100 in the UK! I can see your point, but as Apple offered the partial refund, it actually meant that upgrade would cost me £50 more, thus £150 for 2.3 to 2.6 - which based on the technical evidence doesn't actually give me much gain.
