For those with Apple Vision FOMO (either living outside the US or financially the product is not accessible), how are you handling it?

For those without FOMO and didn't order, how are you looking it at it that keeps you level?

I’m looking at it in keeping my significant other. I’m sure if I stuffed my face in this thing my relationship would suffer in one way or another. I don’t see it useful for working where is the only time that would not impact the former.

Fortunately, my significant other often travels for work. It allows me the time to veg out haha.

There is true benefit in the case of this first generation product in waiting and seeing what happens. The use case is not completely clear yet, there are no reviews yet (long term or even short term), it could suffer from hardware and software issues, they might release a much improved second gen when it goes world wide, etc.

Just think back of Apple Watch, the first generation was not yet the fitness oriented product people come to love now. It was able to pivot that way and the basic hardware and software design was good enough to last to this day, but as an early adopter I was not immediately convinced. So no fear here.

I'm 65 and have some FODBNV

Fear Of Dying Before the Next Version

I'm stealing that.

Tech gadgets don't trigger FOMO for me unless it's something that can impact my career. I used one of the first Macs shortly after their 1984 release. Arguably, it changed the course of my life, but I hardly ever bring it up because nobody cares. It's the ultimate "you had to be there" story.

People are more interested in experiencing it for themselves. If Vision Pro is a stunning world changer and everyone wants to try it, you could argue that you are indeed missing out, but for how long? Probably only a few months.

"Dude, I got to try the AVP 8 weeks before you did" just isn't enough of a brag to give me FOMO. Tech FOMO is the weakest FOMO because your exclusivity is very short.

I’m not even sure I like that you simply touch the air and pantomime everything to get things done. What about when you’re watching a movie? Do you have to sit perfectly still, so you don’t accidentally pause or rewind it or something?

I’m very curious about the controls, and will find out in reviews. Very intrigued about how the controls could evolve over time. Who knows, maybe people will love that you don’t need actual controls.

I do feel FOMO, but I can enjoy my PSVR2 for now.

I've never not wanted an Apple product any less than this one. I actually want a 16' MBP far more than this, or a ASD, or a AWU, or I mean there's a lot that I would rather get first before I even think about buying one of these things. I can think of all kinds of great uses for it but nobody is showing them, they're just showing stuff I can already do for far cheaper which is a weird way to sell something. Show me something I can't actually do with something else and maybe I'll be mad I missed out.

That and I already know that the $3500 price will not stick around, if I were paying $3500 for this I'd be feating that I paid $1500-2000 more than it's actually worth.

I'm in the middle.

i would preorder it, it doesn't cost me anything - the company i work for pays it. but still something stops me.

I think main reason is i already have the psvr2.

i had a lot of motion sickness initially with it. that went away, tough. your body adjusts to it over time.

but i still had the issue that my eyes burned after using the psvr2. You're basically looking at a light source non-stop without moving your eyes to something else.

apple's screentime app shows i use my macbook pro about 7 hours a day as average.

So here are my concerns:

  • eyes burning after using it many hours a day, will that happen?
  • it has m2. why it doesn't have latest m3, i don't understand, it feels initial model will be obsolete by the time it is delivered
  • i fear it will be thrown out to somewhere and not used anymore (playstation vr2: i didn't even plug it since last june) . it sucks to have a 4-5k device as e-waste.

Calling the M2 obsolete is a serious overstatement. Sure, it’s not the latest chip (M3), but since when is the previous chip instantly considered obsolete?

They’ve tested it and showcased it with the M2, and it seems to perform well. Ideally it would have the latest chip, but we can only speculate that the M3 wasn’t ready when Apple started mass producing this device.

Luckily this is a chip that’s being used elsewhere, so we already know it performs well on the Mac and iPad too. It’s not as experimental as the Series 0 Apple Watch, I’d imagine.

Will the future Apple Vision iterations be able to do more than the first gen model? Absolutely. But I’d have to believe this original edition will receive several OS updates before Apple drops support. It seems very well-thought-out IMO.

The gesture controls seem iffy to me, like how some have reported that the virtual keyboard isn’t up to snuff, but the rest seems great.

PSVR2 is the most motion sickness inducing headset I've ever used. I spend hours and hours per week in Quest 2 and now Quest 3 as of launch. Not sure what's going on over with Sony but the rendering implementation/reprojection and frame generation (and honestly the lenses and displays) is really rough. I suspect AVP will make it look like a cheap toy.

I wouldn't really worry about "looking into light" for extended time without looking away. What happens when you're outside or near a window for many hours? Your eyes are exposed to light 100% of the time. Eyes are designed for light.

M2 is not obsolete whatsoever and there is a giant beefy separate GPU (R1) handling 12 camera input streams and processing, leaving the M2 unburdened unlike most standalone HMDs which have a hard time splitting duty.

I bought an oculus 3 three months ago, has been sitting on a shelf for ages, took it out to watch some spatial video.

All in all, I'm quite happy to have bitten the bullet to purchase a 500$ paperweight instead of a 3500$ one, I can't stand having consumer hardware on my face.

Wouldn't the "proper" use of FOMO in this instance be someone who was experiencing FOMO and bought the VP and either doesn't have a real use for it and/or couldn't really afford it but bought it anyway to satisfy said FOMO?

If you can't buy it you can't buy it, FOMO doesn't apply.

For those without FOMO and didn't order, how are you looking it at it that keeps you level?

This doesn't make any sense. If one doesn't have FOMO why would one need to look at this in any way to be "level"?

Or is "FOMO" one of those terms the kiddies use that I don't understand?

Personally, I have no use for VP and won't be buying v1.0, but I hope it is a successful product that opens new doors.

I really want one badly, but i am nowhere near able to afford it currently. If i save every spare penny i might be able to get one in June or by the end of the summer, but thats a huge amount of money for me to spend on a single item. Im more curious to see how people react to it and review it then ill decide later on down the road if its worth getting this version now or waiting for the next version thats hopefully cheeper.

I wasnt there for the launch of the iphone but i wanted one and i think my first iphone was the 3GS. I was there at launch for the Ipad and the apple watch though and ive had most of them along the ways.

How i cope with missing out on this is telling myself this is far far more expensive then any ipad, iphone or apple watch and ultimatly will come down in price and have far more apps and features down the road.

As of right now, nextflix and youtube wont even have native apps, and the battery life is only 2 and a half hours tops.

The reality is, as much as an apple fan i am, as much as a tech fan too, i just cant afford things like this at the moment.

But that said if by some miracle i went out tomarrow and won major bucks on a lucky scratch off, the first thing i would buy for myself is the apple vision pro!

nice theory but it burns.

also funny, while reading this i checked another video and saw this from the WSJ reporter.
