I thought the whole premise of using a verification system that doesn't focus on a majority of staff that work for Stanford University local to Apple was laughable. I called Apple about this and told them that this restricts the teaching and non-teaching staff of the university from accessing their online EDU discounts and only allows student verification as it was setup as you posted about.Just ran into this with my mom who is a teacher. It's kind of ridiculous because the home screen says it's for both staff and students, but literally every other verification form is around student ID's and information only.
No.Does this remind you of CSAM, AirPower? HomePod? ?
Yes. My daughter just bought an iPad for school. The on-campus book store has them at EDU pricing and all you need is a credit card or cash. But the discount is really minimal and sometimes Amazon or Best Buy beats the EDU price.
Like pet food, or discounts for veterinarians and other health professionals / first responders?Still have to use id.me for vet store….
Just use the government employee site...
What luxury! My first university (who hosts their own email) deletes student accounts 6 *weeks* after graduation, with no arrangements for alumni.University I work at does, after three inactive semesters your student account is automatically deleted.
Apple has been using UniDays in Australia for 5+ years. The americans not happy to pay full price so they complain? *confused*Not sure why they can't just require the purchaser to have a university E-mail address from an approved list. That's how other sites have been verifying university affiliation for years.
You must have missed the news when Apple had to discontinue and go back to the drawing board for CSAM, Air Power and HomePod. I wasn’t alive when Macintosh was outNo.
And what does HomePod have to do with the other two items on your list? Should we include Macintosh on the list? The Apple ][?
this is how it works on the german site. Not sure why they can't just require the purchaser to have a university E-mail address from an approved list. That's how other sites have been verifying university affiliation for years.
Honestly, A 3 trillion-dollar company is relying on some third-party website for verification? That’s wrong! 😨😭
Why would a school put an expiration date on an ID? They don't know when the student will leave, and most aren't equipped to ask every student to replace their ID every year.
Because the discount program is also valid for Elementary and Secondary students and staff, not just college/university. Most non-higher ed schools do not have .edu email addresses and there is literally no way that Apple or some company could verify every school. Some states are pretty open in allowing home school too, and Apple has traditionally extended this program to them as well.
Not true. K-12 qualify for the educational discounts.
Again, not true. K-12 students qualify for it, as they could easily have the means to purchase any Apple products for educational purposes. Who said that a 10th grader couldn’t save their money and buy their own Mac for their education?

No, there wasn't!Not exactly. I couldn't just sign up online so I went to an Apple Store and one of the staff members asked for a simple verification. As staff, I didn't have a student ID so I showed them my user profile post login to my school and they were satisfied with that. Since then, my Apple ID is flagged and EDU discount so I now can use it online.
I don't really see the point of trying to game this system. If you want a deal on any of these items, they can be had for the same or cheaper than EDU pricing at other retailers. I got my M1 Macbook Air at Best Buy for $800, I earned BB rewards credits for the purchase, I put it on my Best Buy credit card with no interest for 12 months. I feel like I got a better deal from Best Buy than buying from Apple.
I graduated in 2003 but don't have an edu email since my university only gives email addresses to active students. It is very YMMV with those. If you don't have an email associated with your educational institution, you're most likely not a student or graduated in the 80's.
For seurity reasons schools should put the expiartation date as the end of the current school year and issue a new ID if they attend that same school next year. Why would a school put an expiration date on an ID? They don't know when the student will leave, and most aren't equipped to ask every student to replace their ID every year.
I blame the school district in issuing staff ID’s that have no expiration date since that sounds like a security risk.Being in the UK you have to use UNIDAYS if you want to order online.
First problem, the school isn’t in their list. So you need to contact them. Second problem staff ID doesn’t have an expiry date so it’s rejected.
It took over 3 months dealing with their support staff to get the ID verified on their system and they set it to expire in 12 months.
You guys in the US are lucky!
