wow. is there an option to turn it off? I'd rather not be reminded of my credit balance .... at all.
How often do you need to go to the wallet app to do something? Using Apple Pay for example just shows your cards without needing to open the app.

I know the banks want you to use their own apps, but I wish you could see the balance of all your checking and credit accounts right in the wallet app. Apple should buy Mint from Intuit.
The sort of features Mint offers really makes me question my security.
Everyone is getting hacked lately, even password managers, which even more makes me not want to put all my eggs in one basket.
If someone can hack Mint, then they can access way too much of my life.

5% back on rotating categories (x2 your first year) and good customer service basically. I made almost $700 cash back my first year. The only time I had issues with acceptance is a few places in Canada. I don’t think I’ve ever been turned away in the US (except Costco obviously)
Should note that the 5% cash back is capped at $75 per quarter, so new card users can’t expect this number (even with the doubled cash back rate during the first year) unless they spend a ton at the mediocre 1% cash back level or count other deals like referral bonuses. I’ve used Discover for decades and like it, but these limitations do hamper it as a cash back generator. On the other hand, you can redeem your rewards for various merchant gift cards at a more consistent discount than most other cards, so there’s an additional ”multiplier” there if you happen to like the offering.

I just got done with my first year and got $150 back on the 5% categories. I opened a second card this year so I can do it again.

I believe this feature is finally enabled with the release of iOS 17.2. I went to my Discover card in the Wallet app and there was a notification to guide me the process of 'see balances and full transaction history for this account'. After a few steps to connect the card, I can see the card balance and credit available.

Hope they add this to more debit and credit cards in the US next year. I’d love this on my Bank of America account.

I wonder who started the conversation to make this happens. The amount of Discover card users wanted this on their Wallet app or Discover bank reached out to Apple or the other way around.

Yeah, it’s an interesting question. I wonder if they chose a single provider to try and test out the system before releasing it more broadly, maybe in iOS 18. Even if the US doesn’t have an open banking system like the UK, couldn’t Apple access accounts in the same way that apps like Mint do?
