I doubt that prolonged exposure to direct sunlight is good for your phone. the organics in the OLED screen may be sensitive to the UV in sunlight. I don't think I would use this method. An occasional alcohol wipe is faster and lest risky.
Again, the comment I made was in reply to the OP linking a UV device, the sun does the same, I did not say anything about (isopropyl) alcohol.

I have no idea why Apple publish this. Same as other warnings ‘don’t put plastic bags on your head, don’t drink bleach, don’t look at the sun etc etc’. How are we meant to allow Darwinism to take its course.😂
I once knew a person who stared at the sun for a long period of time and when it started to “dance” declared it miracle. Apparently this is something some people do.

It’s a misleading suggestion from Apple, I believe. Cloth of any kind is ok only if it’s washed after every use, otherwise you’d probably just be spreading the collected dirt and hand’s oil. Soft paper towel, soft toilet paper if you want to be safer, it’s better.
Paper towels aren’t that soft in some cases. They can have larger wood fibers. Definitely bad news for plastic eye glasses.

I think the issue with paper towels is that it is made with wood pulp. I just usually use a cotton cloth.

As a repairman, I’ve seen people damaging to the coating of Macbooks’ glass with any kind of alcohol or strong product, I’d just avoid them.
Anything more powerful than a wet paper towel with water or multipurpose spray once in a while can damage that thing. Don’t touch it, clean the keyboard when you close it.
Paper towels on the display? Are you nuts?

So they start telling us not to do this more than a year after the Carona started and after everyone has already been doing this.
I guess they just relied on people having basic common sense. But they obviously overestimated Americans brain capacity

In a recently updated support document, Apple has indicated that customers should not use products containing hydrogen peroxide to disinfect Apple products, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, HomePod, AirPods, and more. On the other hand, Apple has confirmed it is okay to use a 75% ethyl alcohol wipe to disinfect products.
There was a girl in college called "75% Ethel".

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is just carbon dioxide with one fewer oxygen. I’d highly recommend avoiding 400ppm of carbon monoxide. 400ppm of carbon dioxide may not be good for global warming but is nearly harmless.
I've never heard "whatabout" applied to chemistry before! CO is thermodynamically stable, H2O2 isn't. Moreover, CO has very specific mechanisms for binding with your cells, rendering them dysfunctional. Big, big difference.

Paper towels are perfectly safe when they are wet. Dry paper may be abrasive, depending on what kind you're using.

But I would hope that the Gorilla Glass Apple uses would be able to survive a paper towel without getting scratched.

All these fanged new issues... bah... No one tells me how to clean a phone.. I still have my :apple:cleaning cloth in the back somewhere gathering dust...

....along with those Apple stickers.

I have definitely seen classic Macs coming out beautifully after a bath in hydrogen peroxide or a little retr0brite and natural sunlight. Don’t ditch the peroxide just yet!
