Thinknig of a Xmas pressy to myself.
As i’m Currently atttending hospital every 2 weeks until Oct’2018.
Wondering if Apple Watch 1 could maybe take or monitor my blood pressure.
I.e. if I purchase amp watch 1 -is there anything else I would need to monitor blood pressure -maybe an app or extra.
Thinking entry level series 1 should suffice as I’m at home more often than not these days -WiFi+Ipad pro+SE should work well.
Though is it possible to use Apple Pay without lte.
Edited did macrumours fix the difficult editing when using Smart Keyboard cursor key!

apple watch only does heart rate, not blood pressure.
for blood pressure, you need varying pressure on the vessels in order to monitor it, which is why you have the cuff that inflates.

you can get a blood pressure cuff that will log the entries to your phone automatically though

or if you want one that logs into health kit those are also available

Thanks that answers my extras question for blood monitoring.
Had a quick scan@Amazon u.k.
Lots of devices including bluetooth/wireless -which I could log as suggested via app watch se1.

Is the ios version of se1 a concern at all for what i want to achieve.

Unfortunately there is no way to check blood pressure with just an Apple watch. In order to check blood pressure you need something to inflate and cut off circulation (briefly) in order to measure systolic and diastolic pressures. You may want to consider something like the Nokia BPM+ Blood Pressure Monitor which is sold in the Apple store and syncs data with your iPhone if checking your blood pressure regularly is something you want/need to do. Link to the Canadian store below, but I imagine it is also sold in the UK.

With respect to Apple Pay, you do not need LTE to use it on your Apple Watch as long as it is connected to your iPhone (i.e. you can't go to the store with just your Watch and leave your iPhone at home unless you have an Series 3 LTE Watch).

Thanks yeah I’m considering the recently suggested blood pressure devices via amazon u.k.

Interesting advice Apple Pay via se1 watch -when you mention connected to iphone to use Apple Pay-what way do you mean connected is it usb/lightning cable

no internet (either through LTE on watch, or sharing phone's connection) needed for apple pay on watch once set up
obviously the alert that comes back from your bank about the transaction needs a connection of some kind to make it to the watch.

any of the blood pressure cuffs will connect to your phone, depending on the apps included, it might be possible to view that data on the watch.

Excellent then I could use iphone se 4G data for connection to apwatch/Apple Pay.

Thanks all replied -think apwatch is 2017 tech Xmas pressy-not a great cost difference se1 or 2 -decisions at weekend.

Interesting. I guess I always assumed that Apple Pay needed an internet connection (and hence for the watch either LTE or a bluetooth/wifi connection to your iPhone) to approve the transaction, but since the transaction is approved by the store terminal and the Watch only provides the credit card info I guess it makes sense that a data collection is not required (considering my tap and go credit card isn't connected to the internet either...) Good to know!

Sorry, I assumed that some connection to the internet was required for Apple Pay, but it turns out I was wrong.
