I bought a Apple Watch 1 (watch os 4.3.2) from eBay just to help me play podcasts whilst I jog. I synced everything up to my iPhone 11 Pro Max but found on the watch there is no podcasts app. I see podcasts on the phone etc so I'm confused why the app isn't on the watch. When I open the Watch app on the phone and scroll down I see Music, Phone, Photos but no Podcasts either.

I do have Overcast on the phone so not sure if this is causing some conflict?

Any ideas how I can get podcasts onto the watch?

Thanks

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I remember seeing that the standard Apple Podcast app required a Series 2 Apple Watch or newer.

I've got it on my Series 1 watch.

Having Overcast installed shouldn't make a scrap of difference with the Podcast app.

Is it still on WatchOS 4 or have you upgraded it to WatchOS 6? I'm not so sure the app was available on WatchOS 4.

If you have Overcast, why not use that? There are other good apps as well - I personally like Pocket Casts.

There is no Podcast app available for the 1st gen Apple Watch. This is the original Apple Watch which is more like a Series 0, because it came before the Series 1.

The Series 1 is actually a 2nd gen watch which does get Podcasts.

I'm not sure if the Podcasts app is restricted to newer watches, so I can't help there. But one thing that will surely answer your question is updating to watchOS 6. I believe the podcasts app was introduced in watchOS 5 so updating to the newest software version should give you the app. I see no reason why the older watches won't get it.

I have the A1553 which is Apple Watch (1st Generation), as far as I can see I can't upgrade the watchOS.

I have the series 1 and noticed this last update will not install. I have freed up memory, retried several times, but the only message I get is there was a problem installing the update. I guess it is time to ugrade.

The Podcasts app requires watchOS 5.0 or greater, which itself requires the Series 1 AppleWatch or later. Series 1 is not the 1st generation, but was released a year later instead. It was released at the same time as the Series 2, the only difference between them being that Series 2 is water resistant to 50 meters and the Series 1 is not.
