How is Apple watch 4 remote use with apple tv?

I have an apple watch 3 & use the remote app all the time. It works great. I still prefer the actual remote if I have it with me, but no issues with the watch app.

How is it paired then pleas only I can’t see th windows to enter numbers in.

I’ve been using it for over a year. I’m not 100% certain, but I don’t remember having to pair it. Since they are both on the same iCloud account (at least for me) the watch just recognizes the tv and I can select it from the ones in my house and then use it. I don’t ever have to type in any codes to set it up. I don’t ever have to type in numbers.
