Just curious - will the AW4 have the same external dimensions as the current watches? Will the increased screen size been completely attributed to a smaller bezel or will the watches increase in overall size?

I am curious too...I am upgrading my series 0 is too slow but at this point I glance at the rumors and wait for the official announcement.

I can't wait for Jony Ive's explanation of how they re-engineered this from the ground up.

I'm planning on upgrading my S1, leaning towards the 4 depending on features/size, but could also go for a discounted 3..

I think it will mostly come from a reduced bezel, but I could also see them increase the case size by a small amount—similar to the percentage size increase of the iPhone X vs the iPhone 7, which is barely noticeable. But it may also be slightly thinner—it is difficult to tell from the marketing photo. But either way it shouldn't be much of a change since it is said to be backwards compatible with existing bands.

I guess I should have said "do you think.." :)
:D

The external dimensions will be (virtually) identical, considering the current armbands (allegedly) still fit. They might shave off some height seeing as they added a fraction of a mm last year, but not too much; the crown in the leaked image looks to be the same diameter as currently, and if the watch was significantly thinner it would be difficult to fit a similarly large crown onto it. Making the crown smaller diameter would also risk making it less precise, so I wouldn't expect a super slim watch anytime soon, or at least not using the same crown design as now.

Maybe a Sony Discman-style clickwheel could be a possible future iteration if Apple ever wants to seriously push thinness. It would be more difficult to waterproof though...

Does anyone else think the leaked photo of the AW4 makes it look slimmer than the current apple watch?

I also said the same thing as well when I first saw the picture leaked from 9 to 5 Mac. It does look thinner from the side angle, which I’m actually hoping it might be slightly thinner, but its difficult to know at the moment.

Rumors says that all bands from previous series will fit to new watch. I think that size of watch remains the same but screen will take more area of watch front.

I heard a rumour that the casing will be the same thickness but that the ceramic sensor hump on the back of the new watch will be thinner. Not sure how true that is but I can sort of believe it.

That looks exactly the same as the S3.

Not to me it doesn't.
- The digital crown looks a bit more recessed into the watch, and/or a bit flatter.
- The power button (rumored to be solid-state haptic) is more flush
- The screen size is bigger with less bezel
- And also, from the picture, the watch body looks thinner (but it's hard to tell if that's just the angle / skew of the picture making it look that way).

If I were to bet - I would bet that it IS just a bit thinner (z-axis) but still maintains the same watch band connector grooves so all past bands are compatible. And the X and Y dimensions are exactly the same as prior series, but the face has much reduced bezel to allow for the rumored (known) increase in screensize.

Looking at my S3 and that image side by side I don’t think it is thinner but you are right about the crown. The ridges are definitely longer on the S4 which may give the impression the crown is thinner but I’m not sure it is. Not long now and we will be able to compare to the actual physical thing!

The screen size is of course bigger by 15%. The current screen is approx. 32x25mm and the S4 will be approx. 34x27mm

Won’t be long now. Can’t wait. I’m currently rocking a Series 2 - so I’ll be getting the Series 4 for sure. Can’t wait to find out what I’m getting. Haha!

Its definitely different. The power button is definitely recessed if you look at that picture of the Series 4 leak. Which indicates will be haptic powered , as rumors have suggested in the past.

Do you guys think the rumored “always on” feature will be for AW4 or watchOS 5?
