hi there

anyone used the watch for ski mountaineering?
is there an good app for that?
how is the battery holding on?

thank´s

Workoutdoors is the App for anything like that. So maps and elevation gain and any other stats you want. Battery life (with the S6) seems pretty good, but I am not sure if I would use any workout app (like WOD or strava) for 6+ hours; so for any long trip I would just use the watch. So depends how long you ski for. The S6 always on elevation and altimeter may be all you need for showing the climb on the skin up.

Is there ab activity for ski mountaineering?

Slopes has an off-piste function... But there is no app that I'm aware of, and I've searched, that has a ski/snowboard mountaineering native recording mode.

That sound not good ;(

I am not 100% sure bo Garmin has an skiing activity to choose from in their watches?
Maybe for skiing you should consider it.

Apple has activities for both skiing, and x-c skiing; and so Workoutdoors can be configured for both of those. What do you want an app to do and why isn't using one of those good enough? With workoutdoors, you can set up the screens to be almost anything you want in terms data. My issue with using either of those as the activity is that Apple does not save elevation gained ie "floors climbed" as part of those specific workouts; so you don't get credit for skinning up. WOD will track that elevation gained and display it for you. Selecting "hiking" will save elevation gain.

Ski mountaineering can possibly mean more than one thing, and/or this is a regional/national difference. Are you roping up and doing technical ice climbs while carrying skiis? Or are you skinning up in the mountains and skiing down? This difference doesn't really matter in terms of the workout selected. My issue with using the watch running an activity for either of those types of days is that once the total time goes over 5-8 hours of tracking, you may be running low on battery. So I would not start a workout/activity for a long day in the mountains in the winter.
