I understand you cannot hotspot from an LTE apple watch (like you can from an iPhone/iPad). But does anyone know if this is something that could be someday be done with a software upgrade, or is that a basic hardware limitation?

Further, has anyone heard any rumors is future apple watch versions may be able to offer this feature?

I'm guessing the answer is "no" for both, but this feature is the only thing keeping me from buying an apple watch (I know, it is stupid reason, but in my mind's eye I could see me hotspotting a kid's device or my iPad with my watch (like on the beach) without my iPhone.

Nice idea - I just fear the watch is too focussed on preserving its own battery that a hotspot function is really out of the questions.

The best hotspot device in my opinion is an iPad since it has the bigger batteries.

OK, battery drain totally makes sense. I suppose until these devices can power themselves using the hydrogen in the air hotspotting is too much to ask from Lithium.

Thanks all!
