By now, there are various powerbanks that are designed esp. for the Apple Watch. With those & the Watch recharging pretty quickly, power should not be a real issue.

For calls (even occasionally) I would recommend AirPods, though, as the speaker in the S3 is not sufficient in loud(er) environments. Besides, you may not want to have others listening to your calls that easily (apart from the rudeness factor when doing speaker calls in public).

Interesting -- thanks all for responding!

My intent here is a "light phone" device that just covers the essentials. I'll keep an eye on future Apple Watches to see if the LTE battery life improves enough to be connected all day without having to resort to an external battery or frequent top-ups.

On the days I’ve forgotten to put my phone in my pocket, my watch gets me through the day just fine. I leave for work about 7am and get home about 9pm so it’s a long day.

U might find this Vid quite surprising. In the vid he didn’t pair it with his car but I did pair mine with my car.
He goes all day with just his LTE Apple Watch

I don’t see why you won’t be able to use your Apple Watch LTE the whole day. If you don’t exercise, like running & listening to music for an hour for example, & just using like you said you’ll be using it - coupled with AirPods for calls - battery will be plenty enough.

Like a lot of people, I'm really feeling the distraction and attention drain of having my iPhone on me all the time. Something as limiting as an Apple Watch might hit the sweet spot between a crappy feature phone and a full-on computer in my pocket.

The first thing I noticed with my series 3 is that I no longer feel the attention drain from checking my iPhone all day.

I believe the series 3 watch is the first iteration fast enough to replace the phone.

I don't have a data plan yet for it, but I've already noticed it's helped me change my cell phone zombie habits.

Just because everyone's gotten into the habit of checking our phones all day, doesn't mean we enjoy doing it.
