Not sure how many of you guys/gals know about the Disney MagicBands, but they work as your room key, park ticket, ride line jumper, photo bucket, mobile credit card for stores/restaurants, and a bunch of other things while you are at Disney World.

Once I saw the Mickey mouse face, it occurred to me that Disney could easily create an app that turns your Apple Watch into a MagicBand, using the same technology that powers Apple Pay. Seeing as Disney is obviously close to Apple, I would assume this would be a no-brainer.

Any Disney Parks fans think this would be a cool idea?

I wouldn't mind having it on my watch.
Then I wouldn't have to wear a magic band AND a watch.

Too bad Apple doesn't allow apps to have access to the NFC section, like Android does.

Of course, perhaps Apple can make an exception for Disney.

Perhaps we could see this in the next SDK with select developers (like Disney). Cook has been touting keyless cars using the iPhone (and :apple:Watch).

Also how is the Starwood Hotels' App going to work?? Is it a WiFi iPhone App back to the 'front desk' and all locks are controlled from there or is it BT or...?????

I was talking with my wife about this the other day. Since WDW was an early Apple Pay partner and it's finally getting rolled out (sort of), I can see this as definitely plausible. And, this would be awesome!

MDE would be very nice for tracking FP+ also.

The Magic Bands use both NFC but also RFID which is how they let you get your photos from rides without having to scan your band. I'm not sure the Apple Watch could do that, but I thought of the same thing. Of course if you were using NFC all the time the battery would probably take a major hit.

This would interest me too. I just came back from Disney a couple months ago. The functionality of the bands is simply superb, but the bands themselves leave a lot to be desired. They are extremely uncomfortable, so it would be welcome to be able to use an Apple Watch instead. As others have said though, I don't know if the Watch has all the same technology as the band. If anything, I hope Disney at least redesigns their bands to be more comfy.

The Starwoods door lock app, currently available on Android and iOS, works via Bluetooth.

Well Steve Jobs was a member of the board of directors for Disney, so there has been some connection to the two.

Yep, that's why I thought that, of all companies, Disney has a good chance.
