So, my transition from iPhone XS Max to iPhone 11 Pro Max and Apple Watch Series 4 to Apple Watch Series 5 hasn't really been smooth... My Apple Watch backup is gone!

Previously I had an AWS 4 paired to my iPhone XS Max. I unpaired it (and thus a backup was created automatically), sold it and then bought an AWS 5. I chose not to pair it to my iPhone XS Max since I didn't wanna unpair it and pair a week later when I got my iPhone 11 Pro Max, so I waited...

Today my iPhone 11 Pro Max arrived, so I backed up my iPhone XS Max and then reset it. I then updated my iPhone 11 Pro Max to 13.1.1, reset it, and then installed it again using my iCloud-backup from my iPhone XS Max.

Now it was time to pair the AWS 5 to my iPhone 11 Pro Max. But among the available backups I can only see almost 2 year old ones from my AWS 2. NOTHING from my AWS 4 is showing. And yes, I have updated my AWS 5 to WatchOS 6, so it doesn't have to do with versions differences.

So, am I screwed? I guess I am... and that f*cking sucks. And this is only one of many problems I'm having right now with iPhone 11 and AWS 5 and their crappy software.

This isn’t helpful but I do the auto transfer rather than the iCloud restore. During the process it swaps your watch to the new iphone without any input from the user. It’s super simple and doesn’t require backups, wiping, or restoring.

It does take a few minutes more but I just start the process and leave the room.

An iCloud restore does the same thing now. OP, do you mean you updated the previous watch to Watch OS 6 before selling it?

No, the AWS 4 was on WatchOS 5.X (5.3.2?). The new watch got shipped with WatchOS 6 on it.
