Picture attached. It seems when inserting the band, it has torn a bit of it. Apple support want me to send in the whole watch, which I find very annoying. I guess I will just ignore it.

Since this looks like an isolated incident, they probably want to send you a new watch just in case there is some sort of defect in the connector that is causing that tear and to prevent it from happening again.

No use throwing another Sport band to you if it's just going to wear how that one did within a period of a week or two.

It looks like the watch case has cut into the band when it was placed into the watch. Have you been removing the band a lot for some reason? I would wait for bands to become available at the stores and then try for a replacement or just buy a new one.

Hardly removed it at all. Bands probably won't be in store until the Apple Watch is.

Maybe, but I think I'm gonna stick with it.

Just me, but I'm thinking a little pressure along the back inner edge making a mark on the band is going to be a normal phenomenon.

Edit: looking again I can see this is on the outside of the band, not the back/inside. Hmmm.

Uh oh. When holding the watch from the band, it seems to move up a little, which means it connected digs into the band. Replacement time.

Faulty connecter it seems. A shame :(

The fact that you haven't removed it a lot may be a sign that the band channel on your watch wasn't milled out correctly. I would consider replacing it because it may do that to all the bands that you get.

Let them send you a new one.

Very confused, Apple only want the watch back, so that means that when I get the fixed one, I'll still have a faulty band?

Some people have said that Apple is overnighting replacement watches if you have AppleCare+. It's worth asking.

Are you sure they didn't mean send the entire thing back? I'm guessing they'll send you a watch with a new band.

Don't have AC+ . Nope, email definitely says watch only, they won't send back bands or other accessories. Worried that Apple won't see any issues on the Watch, send it back unfixed, and the same problem will occur. The email says the damage is physical, but that must be the band. They'll look for damage, see none, and send it back. However, if they look for connector issues, they might find something.

Did you call them? I normally suggest going into an Apple Store since the Genius there will throughly document everything for you and send off a comprehensive report along side your repair request.

I'm not too sure how it works over the phone, but I assume as you talk to different people, they're taking in-depth notes in a log that is probably only accessible to the support staff while making a separate report accessible to repair staff. While I assume they'd send a report and details along side a request, it's always nice to have the confidence of face-to-face.

I got different information from them, they said the watch and original band are considered a bundle and need to always be returned/exchanged as a pair.

Email:
Carefully remove the band and send us only the Apple Watch face. If you include the band or accessories, we won’t be able to return them to you. The shipping box will have instructions and a shipping label for you to use. If you use other packing materials and then the Apple Watch is damaged in shipping, we'll return the Apple Watch to you without repairing it.

Online chat is what I did. I'll consider a Genius Bar appointment.

Just rang them. She didn't understand the issue so asked me to email her the photos, and she will call me back later. She said she can cancel the repair as "Physical Damage" doesn't make sense.

EDIT:

She just rang back, and fixed the repair.

just wait until bands are in the stores and go in for a replacement. even without AC+.
they will do an immediate swap.
if the same thing happens with the new band, Then go into the store and have them swap out the whole watch.
