Hi all,

I am interested in your point of view regarding Apple Watch and the elf of the battery.

Most devices emit high elf even when in airplane mod. For those who care about this stuff, do you by chance know if the watch emits high elf?

Please note that I am not posting for a debate about non-ionizing and ionizing rf or to be schooled on what I should worry about. Elf is barely talked about on these threads, its usually rf so I thought I would ask for those who know about this stuff.

Thanks in advance.

True there are times of day that we are exposed to intense elf like going near an appliance, using a hair dryer, etc. My iPhone even emits 12mg or 1.2 ut in airplane mode. However, none of these are strapped to me all day. I'm just wondering if there are any AW wearers who think about this.

Personally, I would never sleep next to an outlet that had dirty electricity or near an appliance that is running as these result in high ut. Just wondering the ut on the Apple Watch because I'm tempted to grab one.

Why would you buy an Apple watch when you are convinced it will harm you?

I'm not convinced it will harm anyone. I have no idea what the ut is coming from the Watch. I'm just a consumer asking a question to see if those who are knowledgeable can shed some light. I have been a part of MacRumors since 2008 and people here have always been kind, thoughtful, and knowledgeable about many different things so I thought I would give this question a go.

I know talking about rf brings about loads of sarcasm here on MR, which you are not being at all, but ELF EMF is something not talked about a lot and I'm curious about it as it pertains to a wearable electronic such as the AW.

Sorry if you thought my comment was uncaring but just sitting in an office will expose you to hundreds of times more ELF EMF RF than your watch strapped to your arm. Only way to escape is to stand out in the woods but that does not make much of a life.

It must be nice that you main worries as about stuff like this, just wait to you have kids and you hand them your phone to chew on so you can get a few minutes of peace.

Enjoy

Ha. I have a couple kids and hear that.

Seriously though, I'm not worried about it. I'm just really curious. My electrician brought an elf meter to my home when doing wiring and asked where my kids and I sleep to make sure we weren't near faulty wiring in the wall and because the fuse box is below my kids bedroom and he wanted to make the the proximity of the fuse box to bed were far enough that the units tesla were a non-issue during sleep. I found this interesting and never heard this before.

Due to this, when he was here I was curious and had him test the UT in my iPhone because it has circuitry. I didn't care what it was, again just curious and given a piece of tech is on the wrist all day and emits elf due to circuitry my mind just made the connection and I'm genuinely curious for those who know about this stuff.

I don’t hesitate to turn on the heated mattress pad in the winter, so I have probably already sealed my fate to an ELFIN doom

Ha. Fair enough. I have been reading a lot on the Tesla forums and got what I was looking for there: Just for the record, I was just looking to learn, not siding with some "evidence" I read somewhere. I feel there is a difference between genuinely asking questions to people you feel may know something and could give you facts to learn more, as opposed to coming here in stating things are bad for you unplug, etc.

I meant that sincerely. If ELF is really an issue I have probably already doomed myself. I have used electric blankets and heating pads for years, sat for hours in front of monitors from CRT to flat panel, I have no idea what kind of effect things like degaussing the ship when I was in the Navy has on the human body. What about TENS treatments? I figure it will be something other than ELF that does me in though. With my family history it likely be some form of cancer not related to ELF or Alzheimers if the motorcycle doesn’t claim me first

At my current location, Earth's magnetic field is currently at a field intensity of about 54 microTeslas. This is 45 times what the iPhone emits in airplane mode according to you.

I'm exposed to this amount of magnetic flux every second of every day of my life. Every life form on Earth evolved and lived within natural magnetic flux of similar intensity, which is more than an order of magnitude greater than what portable electronic devices emit.

So, there's that.

its good to be curious, and it's good to keep things in perspective.

People reacted in a similar way to radiation - they didn't know what it is, but they can't see it, and they know it's bad, so suddenly no amount of radiation of any kind is safe. Disregarding the background radiation that has _always_ been present on Earth. Convinced radiation is terrible? Well, then, avoid bananas, salad dressing, airplane flights (not because of the security scanners, but because they fly at 30,000 feet putting you above a substantial portion fo our shielding atmosphere), and high locations in general (heaven help you if you live in, say, Denver).

OP had a concern, that's worth addressing. But as risenphoenixkai points out, perspective is good.
