Even if it sold for much cheaper than what Apple is offering, I'd still not buy it. I'd have to shell out for an iPhone 6 first.
Why can't it work with my existing Android phone like my Fitbit Charge HR?

The same reason a google watch won't work on an iPhone.

I don't understand all the negativity.... Reminds me of the iPad and iPod launches. I think this is super exciting and can't wait to try one on!

Sometimes it feels like we're watching a real life version of Divergent. where millions of people will be divided into a relatively small set of choices.

"Which faction are you?"

- Dauntless is obviously space black with link bracelet.

- No idea for Abnegation, Amity, Candor, or Erudite.

:p

No thanks Apple. I'll waste my money on something else.

Good that increases the chances of getting mine :D

Lets see how long this will take to become a complete failure. My vote is 2 years if the price is not dropped.

I seriously doubt it will be a failure .. the price is high yes. But that hasn't stopped the masses from craving Apple products.

You will only see a price drop when it's the previous years model. Which will be fine for many people.

The iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch all fill a certain 'use'.

The Watch is really not much more than a convenience, and Apple's attempt at a fashion item. They do try to make all of their products fashionable, but this is the first item that is actually intended as form over function.

You clearly don't understand what its 'use' is then.
Yes, it's totally presented as a "fashion accessory", BUT in it's basic form, it's an awesome fitness tracker. Not even getting into Apple Pay & Glances. So yeah... There's that. :D

Again, convenience. You can get fitness trackers for a quarter of the price. The rest can be done by phone with no added cost.

Thanks Fitbit... you made me want an Apple Watch :)

I got a $39 Timex to get used to (wearing) a watch. I have not worn a watch after the pager days...I used to collect watches including some expensive ones, gave all of them away as I realized that it is waste of money.

BTW, why the link bracelet is so expensive? Am I missing something?

Let us hope people who want a watch will get it soon and don't have to wait for months or stand outside the store early in the morning.

I'm generally not negative about any new Apple roll out, but when you see such tasteless, adolescent, OMG CONSUME! headlines as "Which one is right for you?" and "Which apple watch should you buy?" it just makes me nauseous.

I never thought I'd see such ridiculousness at macrumors.

I always have my iphone with me, I don't need to tell a watch to tell my phone what to do, Ill just do it directly on the phone, cut out the tiny screen middle man.
With respect, you need to try it before casting judgement. I have had a pebble for a while now and although it sounds trivial, there is a surprising benefit to alerts coming through on your wrist, not on your phone. A lot of the time you leave your phone where it is - it can be tucked away in an inside pocket or a bag and you much less frequently need to look at it for (for example):
  • Appointment reminders,
  • Text messages (and quick replies from the Apple Watch),
  • Call alerts (and being able to reject them from the watch),
  • Controlling your music
These are all a lot quicker, more convenient and more subtle (e.g. if you're in a meeting or you have your hands full) on a watch.

It's not for everyone - some people may well try it and not like it or not find it to be a benefit. But try it before you slate it.

I'm sure there'll be one which is "right for me" in a couple of years.
The one which is right for me is waterproof for at least 10 metres and carries at least a few days worth of charge, and maybe has some kind of induction charging stand rather than something I have to clip to it. I can wait :)

Yup, it's a perfect partner device. Even when it's not on my wrist I have a neat little stand for my Pebble, it sits by my computer so even when my phone is still in my bag or anywhere else close by I can still see incoming calls and messages. I like to think of both the Pebble and Apple Watch as the beginning of something good rather than the end-solution. I'd rather have a Fuelband-type band with the same functionality (really like the look of Microsoft's band actually).

"Which Apple Watch should you buy?

There's an excellent variety of Apple Watch models, and since they all have the same functions, it really comes down to your personal taste and your budget. "

Gee, Thanks!!!

Agreed. Even comments that on the surface seem more measured, such as "wait for version 2", dont even ponder the aspect of "do I need this watch? should I even consider buying this watch? how will it improve my existence?". It's crazy baffling.

We're all so used to Apple giving us little choice, that now when they do offer a fairly decent set of customization possibilities, people want to take advantage of it.

In this way, they've successfully diverted a lot of conversation away from "Why do I want this", to "Which model and color do I want."

I think it's utterly brilliant of Apple. Granted, it might only work short term, but hey.
