Then apple should face antitrust scrutiny / be taken to court / etc, for *requiring* an iphone to use an apple watch. it's virulently anticompetitive to *require* people to spend hundreds of dollars on an iphone just to be able to have the *right* to spend hundreds of dollars on an apple watch.
I really don’t care about this “anticompetitive” BS…
You don’t like Apple’s way, just buy another product.
I like Apple environment the way it is, and I have no desire to see it contaminated by android.

I agree, it's an ecosystem. It just works. I'm sure there are quality watches out there that work seamlessly with quality android phones, and that's great. But the keyword is "quality".

I don't think Apple want to deal with support nightmares of configuring an Apple Watch with some crappy cheapo android device. Just the same as I can't stand having to continuously reconnect and sync my daughters amazfit watch to her iPhone.

The only time I have to worry about that for me is when getting a new iPhone or Apple Watch. And really, even that is minimal (except for entering CVV numbers for Apple Pay).

You nailed it. Saying “Android” equals saying a world. An unregulated heterogeneous world. To support a product the way Apple intended it, would be a nightmare.
