I will wait for the price drop of the v2 or v3.

Or maybe wait just a few short weeks for the price drop of the v1. :D

(Remember how Apple lowered the price of the original iPhone by $200 less than three months after the initial release?)

I really hope these leaked prices are very wrong!!

http://www.techfor.us/2015/02/apple-watch-price-from-349usd-to-20000usd/
Above is the link to the prices that were leaked.

My excitement was high for the :apple:Watch, I have $600.00 squirreled away for it and I was planning on buying a second one as a gift. If this is in fact the actual prices my excitement has deflated and that gift won’t happen.

Let me explain what you are seeing on that page:

You have 3 types of :apple:watch: Aluminum, stainless steel and Gold. You have 2 sizes of watch 38mm (Ladies?) and 42mm (mens?). You have several color schemes, space grey, silver, gold and rose gold. Please note a few key things. Not all bands fit on all size watches, some bands you can only get with a watch and the prices….

My issues:

  • Paying extra for the 42mm as apposed to the lower priced 38mm (with the exception of the gold watches this is lame at best) The Aluminum and stainless steel shouldn’t have different prices between the 38mm and 42mm.
  • You will notice that the Milanese Loop and the Stainless Steel link watch bands can only be bought IF you buy the :apple:Watch with it! So if you want one of each you would need to buy TWO :apple:Watches.
  • All bands are not for everyone! You cannot get a “Modern Leather Strap” unless you buy a 38mm Watch. Likewise the “Leather Loop” bands you can only use on a 42mm :apple:Watch.
  • In order to get the *space grey stainless steel* :apple:Watch you must buy the Steel Link band version that costs $999.00
  • Price. $999.00 for a stainless Steel watch is too high! Apple or otherwise.
I have been a Apple person for a long time. I know they cost more than other brands and I’m fine with that, However, this device is over priced.

  • I would have expected that the 38mm/42mm (gold excluded) would be the same price and that the bands would all be interchangeable as we were led to believe in every single :apple: Watch add to date.
  • Lastly the prices. $350 for aluminum and $500 for stainless steel. What happens next year when you have a new model of the :apple: Watch

Disappointed!

NOTE: —-> This may or may not be that actual numbers, let us pray this is wrong. We shall see on March 9th

[Disregard. Seannyb below set us straight.]
Good catch. The images on that link weren't rendering for me, but they did when I went to the original Italian source.

Unfortunately those prices look pretty credible. I'd like to think they were European prices with VAT, but with dollar signs, they're almost certainly USD.

I had my heart set on the Stainless Steel Space Black. For better or worse, I'm a lifelong watch wearer and enough of a watch geek to be willing to actually drop $1K for it, but only if Apple doesn't announce the fabled rMBA.

From the price tiers, it looks like big box retailers will only be selling the Sport edition; the will likely only be available to department stores, watch stores and Apple Stores; the Watch Edition will only be available through jewelry stores and Apple Stores, by appointment only.

At least we know now what Apple was so cagey about pricing on the non-entry-level models.

I think the poster above is right about the size difference. I don't think Apple is looking at the size difference as MBP 13' and 15' screens. I think its a 'how well this fits me' category and their pricing tiers will stem from the bands and different physical watch faces. It's seems odd for nominal size difference to cost THAT much more in its class when in general it seems the smaller face is geared towards smaller wrists (typically speaking female fitting) and the larger face for larger wrists (typically male fitting)

There must be a price difference between the watch sizes. Even though the size are not that much bigger, there will be slightly different components that cost will be different. Watch size and materials used especially gold, screen size, battery size. There will be a price difference between sizes, no doubt!

that almost sounds like u have to stick to the band it comes with?

From what we've been told so far, that is unlikely. If you buy a space gray watch and the only band that comes with it is the black one, then you can buy a different band. You will then have two bands.

If you want the only band in your possession to be alien green, then it will be up to you to buy the alien green band you prefer and then dispose of the black band by selling it, giving it away, or, tossing it in the trash.

It's not just the price that defers me from buying the v1, but def a good price drop would make me reconsider.

Tim Cook better have that face paint at the March event.

At the March 9 event, it would be cool to see folks (not Tim) with Face Paint. I am actually wondering what the event will be like. It seems they are working hard to make this a fashion statement and not a technology thing. Based on that, having an announcement like the iPhone where they talk about features and chips and memory and stuff would actually be a bit boring.

I want clowns and runway models and face paints. Make this fashion show. That would be cool.

yeah, i know, not going to happen, but it would be cool.

Still wondering if it would be timeless like other watches. I mean can we expect it to work for atleast half a decade without battery dying out on us.

Non of the watches comes with bands because there will be way too many models. Also keep in mind that there are two watch sizes too! This will be more models than anything they've ever made if the watch came with the band. Someone do the math and tell us how many models there would be for both watch sizes combined, plus the space gray stainless steel and rose gold edition version if Apple were to sell the bands with the watches. Almost 100 models?

I think the Watch will come with a band in the box, but every band won't be available in the box with the Watch. Some band styles and colors may only be available as "second" bands.

The was when Apple wasn't as well known. They don't need such tactics now.

I will wait for the price drop of the v2 or v3.

Yeah, because Apple are known for dropping their prices
What will happen in the real world is that they will sell millions and next year it'll have new features, it'll be better, it'll be thinner but it'll be the same price.

Don't start talking about price drops and being frugal, you sound like an Android user.

Saw this during the weekend and laughed a bit
It's probably fake but who knows?.....

Doesn't seem like something Apple would do. They'd want everyone to walk out the store with the band they want without having to purchase an extra band. I think the watch will be in it's own box, when you tell the Apple associate what watch you want they will show you on their iPad or iPod which bands can be used with the watch you selected and they'll go to the back and bring out both the watch and the band in separate packages. I'm only interested in owning the black sport band with the gold watch if the price isn't more than $2000. But based on your logic if the bands are to be paired with the watch and that model sells out, I must purchase the gold watch that comes with a different color band and then buy an additional black sport band separate... I'll then end up having a leather band or some other color band I absolutely do not want at all. I believe Apple has taken this into consideration and wouldn't want someone to have to buy for example a gold watch with gray leather band when they wanted a gold watch with black sport band because they want everyone to be happy with their purchase and not walking around asking or posting online who wants to trade watch bands.

I'm intrigued how the Apple Watch Edition will work in terms of future trade-ins or rebates. You'd be crazy to buy a $6k+ mini computer you strap to your wrist, if in 3 years time when the technology is old and redundant, and the battery has faded, its essentially a useless gold brick strapped to your wrist. Obviously traditional solid gold watches are worth something, and have ongoing resale value.

If a basic watch is $300 and the gold one is $6000 (guess from certain posts), then surely the gold is $5700 of its value? How do you get that back to buy a future model instead?

There isn't that much gold on the watch, The top side is the screen and bottom side is glass. The bands aren't gold either, so this makes me believe it will be price much cheaper than gold watches in jewelry stores. No way this gold watch is more than $2000.

I disagree. But we only have to wait a week to learn the answer to this and many other questions.

Actually that black MacBook WAS literally more for just the color: you could BTO the white to match the specs of the black exactly, but the price was still lower. An interesting case, but far and away the exception to Apple's rule: other than that, colors alone haven't cost more.

Exactly. I had a friend who bought the black MacBook. It was $150 to get black plastic instead of white plastic. And yes, you could get a white MacBook with the exact same specs as the black one. For $150 less. There were no 'caps' that were unavailable to the white model - same maximum RAM, same highest-end hard drive (and an easy to consumer-replace, at that.)

Later model black MacBooks were the same price as an equally-configured white one - it was just that the black model came by default with higher specs. Likewise with the white iPhone 3G. You could get a black one at the same capacity, but the white one was ONLY available with the higher storage.

Apple has done that with iPods and even the old "gumdrop" iMac G3 models, too. You only got a choice of color if you picked one higher than the base model.

Groovy colors like "Blue Dalmatian" and "Flower Power".

Can you dig it?
I said color names, not colors.

When a color is available that looks similar to another one it's perfectly fine to give them more complex names, but when all you can get is 3 damn colors, then just call them by their name.

The problem I have with this watch is the selection of bands and there alleged pricing.

I'm a watch wearer, to start, and I do not wear leather or plastic bands. I never will, despite whatever features a watch could have. I guess I'm too vain, I don't know.

Now, if the speculation I've seen online is correct, and the pricing is this divided among bands, I'll be holding out for a third party vendor offering something more my style, if that ever happens.

Apple is now entering an interesting marketplace.
