I can't be the only who noticed this. But when you look at what's in the box for Apple Watch Edition (at least on the Apple Store app) it shows that it has a lightning cable packed with it. I assume that's because the Apple watch has a lightning port.

I think the Lightning cable is for the magnetic charging case that's also included with the Edition.

here is a whole bunch from the video that show the connector.

I bet this port exists mainly as a way to determine if it's a legitimate apple wrist band or not.

here's some images of the back side of said port.

Exactly. The lightning cable plugs into the magnetic charger. You could theoretically use any lightning cable with the magnetic charger.

That was announced at the September event.

Lol, I love when the "flat earthers" come out with their theories on how a diagnostic port is actually a plot to destroy a vibrant ecosystem of bands that would aide adoption of Apple Watch in a huge way, by making them MUCH more personal & customizable than any "open" Android Wear product!

Yup.... makes perfect sense.

Apple does it with other hardware like Lightning connetors. Sure it's not the same exact thing, and perhaps not likely, but it's not as crazy of a possibility as some might want to make it out to be. I guess it just all remains to be seen.

The bands have to slide in from the side, and I certainly haven't seen any connectors on the bands, so I doubt it's for that.

I need sleep. Read headline as Apple Watch Diagnostic Port Spotted in Apple Porno Videos and I'm here wondering why they would get an early watch??

So that my post is not so useless, I will just say that I get the feeling that the port won't really be user accessible for anything. At least not any time soon. Or why not at least hint at it and show an early accessory off that a partner has made? It was the time to do it.

I am hoping this is where you can connect a keyboard :p

More seriously, I have wondered if there will ever be a need to hardwire a connection to the computer to restore from a backup like you can do with the phone? It seems they expect that everything will be OTA, but it would make sense to have a hardwire option for diagnostics or just as a faster way to load data.
