I was surprised at that video. When I saw the OP, I thought there is no way. But that video is pretty clear that the Ion-X glass will shatter easily with just a normal drop. Although the guy in the video obviously didnt do his homework because he called it sapphire glass right before he flipped out.

Now to go find a drop test with the SS because that's what I have.

Edit: Looks like the SS version survives much better. Same exact test, but no breakage of the glass.

This pretty much matches the results from the OP...

I have the SS version but sapphire is supposed to be more brittle than the ionX glass. People seem to be assuming after these drop test that somehow the sapphire will do better. I'm not so sure. Looks like I may go ahead and purchase apple care (even though I have multiple other watches with sapphire faces and have never had an issue. Of course I do have those insured as well.)

I loved his little temper tantrum...

In all my years of wearing watches, can't say I've ever dropped one. Goes on wrist in the morning, stays on until I take it off at night.

It a sport watch, not meant to be dropped on concrete, fried, or sautéed. But surely it would survive a more realistic drop test on a bathroom tile floor or bedroom hardwood. These videos are so silly.

They should've just used Sapphire on both models. I preferred the aluminum design but SS looks better on video.

Ouch! If that's a real Apple Watch, well, I guess there goes the argument in favor of Gorilla Glass for better impact resistance.

I think I'm going to go place my order for Apple Care now...

Good idea!!!
Just think of all the DOZENS of times you've been wearing your other watches, then suddenly, while walking over pavement, stopped... turned your wrist upside down, carefully removed the strap from your wrist, then threw it down on the pavement.

I mean... that IS a completely normal and not bozo idiotic scenario at all, right???

There isn't nearly enough petulant frenzy in that video. :D

Dropped my sport yesterday putting it on. I was standing so may have fell 3 to 4 feet. Hit a metal bar stool on the way down than hit the hardwoods. Not even a tiny scuff. I really think it depends on what and how it hits. Yes glass breaks and so will sapphire.

Hmm, I have owned expensive/inexpensive watches and have never dropped one. Either you're uncoordinated or an accident waiting to happen. Here's a concept, don't buy the watch. Watch is fine and exceeds most standards for sports watches. Where are the tests on $400+ Garmins or Suunto's. Just haters as usual.

I was going to say the same. I've worn a watch daily for decades. Albeit, different ones...but I've never dropped one before. Many watches in my collection look still great for being "vintage", and they've all gone thru being my daily driver.

So much for shatter proof being the sport versions strength. I'm sticking with sapphire for scratch resistance. I wonder how the SS will go in that test?

clearly fake, it was NOT continuous camera... did not show time stamp. I believe it's made/sponsored by Samsung intentionally to make Apple watch look bad.

The test is relatively meaningless.

No one drops their watch exactly like in the test. That's why it's called an accident. If you're worried, you should never have bought the watch.

It has nothing to do with its strength. It's a watch, it's on your wrist, it's going to get bumped around. That's a fact. I've worn watches from $100 up to prices you'd never believe. They ALL get dinged.

Get into acceptance that it's going to get marks on it. Wear it, enjoy it, and replace it when it's so bad that it's really bothering you.

Has anyone came across any drop test videos or dropped their own :apple:watch :eek: ?

I found one video on youtube and it shows that the apple watch does not survive even a 3-feet drop.:eek:

Thanks for posting! I will definitely be getting a case and screen protector for mine. Although it might take the beauty of the actual watch away, id rather it be protected than this happen to it. Although it's unlikely for the watch to fall of your wrist, it's still worth keeping it protected.

I currently have an Armani watch, and I've knocked that against the corner of a table with no damage, but I reckon the watch won't do so well :( going to order a few accessories before my watch arrives.

Don't drop glass on cement. Got it. I fully expect those results with this style watch. Will it be a problem long term? Maybe. Most watches have a raised bezel that would normally protect the face. Apple's design is the opposite of that and the fragile glass is front and center. The current iPhones have the same problem.

I'm not getting a case for my watch. That's crazy town.

Or you know.. you put on the watch in the bathroom and drop the watch while fiddling with getting the strap closed onto the equally hard tile floor...

I don't care about drop tests. I want to see impact tests. Like what will happen when I'm walking and accidentally swing my arm on the corner of a desk or doorway.
