Maybe the limited edition model. Imagine Apple selling out of all their their limited edition 18K gold watches in a few weeks. Then, all those people who crave having a limited edition Apple watch must wait a whole year for the next limited edition models to be release, or bid up for the sold out ones. Could be pandemonium!

buy the $17k EDITION model, and maybe if and when gold goes to $100,000,000 per oz, you can get your $17k back.

I'm with you on this one, I already see eBay listings way beyond the 30k mark.

Due to the fact that third party apps won't be using the internal hardware of the watch (processing power), I think that the first Apple Watch will be okay for a good 2-3 years. But the Apple Watch Edition is a horrible investment, the SS or Sports is fine.

My plan is to get a SS Apple Watch then eventually get the link band to go with it (no way I can afford both from day one). I'll probably use this until the third Apple Watch is released.

Poor investment. There will be much buyers remorse from this. But that's the way the world works. Make something shiny and people will probably consider buying it.

I'll buy one and keep it sealed. I'll sell it on ebay in 5+ years.
I've done it last year with a sealed 1st gen iPhone and 1st gen iPod Touch (the one with Lennon on the box, quite rare).
I also have a sealed iPad 1 and a 160GB iPod Classic.

People will pay crazy money for some things. A friend of mine just sold a sealed Apple webcam for 1k lol.

I bought a 3rd generation (I think that is the number) iPod shuffle in the polished stainless steel. It was the little piece of gum one with a clip. No real buttons on it. They made a special edition that was nicer than the other one. I paid $99 for it. I returned in a week later when the iPod Nano came out with the clip and the touch screen (the one you could make a watch from with the Lunatik band).

I wish I had kept that shuffle new in the box. New sealed ones go for $500-1,200 on eBay now.

First generations are never a good investment.

Look at ANY device (iPhone, iPad, iPod, Surface, Xbox, PlayStation 3, etc.)

Of course it is. Even just for the collection factor. I mean look at the iPhone 1, everyone wants one to say they have one. I'd imagine the Apple Watch will be the same as well. I think they'll sell incredibly well.

Is the first gen iPhone really that desirable? I still have mine and it's in perfect condition. Anyone want to buy it?

any type of electronics is just a bad investment period. if u want investment, get a swiss mechanical watch that you can pass down.

If I remember the first generation launch PS3's were horrible. They were like 700-800 bucks and only good thing was some very had backwards compatability.

I though the original playstation would be gen 1 of playstation? :)

As for the first version of the PS3
It had a really high resale value as soon as Sony cut the backwardscompability.. A few years later you could still get your money back.

No you can replace the battery in the watch by Apple. I'm sure there will eventually be kits you can get to replace the battery.

battery life will be crap after a while. and from looking at it, i highly doubt you can replace the battery, I'm sure it will be like the iPod touch/ipad. apple does not replace the battery on those products either.

any electronic purchase should never be considered an investment.

Electronics are not a good investment. After 2 years they lose 75% of it's value. Apple products lose 50% of it's value.

Edit: I think the question is - is the apple watch an electronic device? Does it have real mechanical watch mechanisms in the apple watch? Or is it all digital? A mechanical watch is going to be worth more.
