My niece is 7. Would she be able to wear the apple watch? I am would like her to have this so she can call her parents in case of emergency and also, that her parents can see where she currently is.

Thanks

Understand that for the cellular Apple Watch, there's a monthly charge that her parents will have to pay (unless you're going to cover it as well). And her parents have to have recent-model iPhones (no Androids).

Also note that an Apple Watch on cellular mode all day long almost certainly won't have sufficient battery power to make it from wake up to bed time for her. It'll be better if her school has wifi that she's able to connect to as well.

If you do get one for her, make sure to buy AppleCare for it -- kids can be rough on fragile things like watches.

Edit: oh, and make sure her parents' cell plan support the Apple Watch. Some smaller regional carriers do not.

xraydoc, what do you think size-wise? Would the 41mm be too big? That is, would the watch always lock itself because it thinks it is off of the wrist?

Depends on how small she is. It might be, but she wouldn't be the first kid to have one. I suppose buy it from somewhere that has a good return policy if it doesn't fit well. A sport band might be the best choice for adjustable sizes.

But given the price, and the expense her parents may end up with (likely at least an extra $10/month on their cell plans, plus repairs if it gets cracked/broken), make sure the child is responsible enough. Some are at that age, some are not. I'm sure you've given that some thought, but mentioned it for the benefit of others who might read this thread.

I am not worried about the costs... I'll pay for it all. I just want to know that it will be usable. Thanks a ton for your help, xraydoc. :)

There's a process for registering a cellular Apple Watch in family/kid mode. There's a tutorial somewhere on Apple's website. Requires the cellular models, FYI.

For smaller wrists, the Nike Sports band has the most holes, so is more likely to fit than the regular sports band. The solo loops are very light and comfortable, but you'd need to take your niece to the store and try them on to find the right fit. Also, they tend to wear out and break after a while -- mine lasted about nine months. But it really was super comfortable while it lasted. So if you don't mind having to replace them when they break, and there is a size that fits your niece, that's the most comfortable band for someone with small wrists.
