I bought a Space Black 44mm SS with Milanese bracelet S4 Apple watch on December 1 after I saw a deal at Amazon Warehouse for an extra 20% on it. Watch came out to total of $378 after taxes, watch was graded as "Very Good" condition with complete accessories and packaging. I think I can still buy applecare for it since the phone support wont expire till next year. Anyway the bigger issue is that the previous buyer of the watch linked it to his iCloud account without deactivating/removing it prior to returning it to amazon, being amazon have probably such volumes of return to handle, they probably don't actually take the time to make sure that iCloud was removed etc..etc.. on apple devices. I reached out to Apple and they said it's common occurrence with Amazon so they requested for me to just upload my proof of purchase, which I did same day I received the "defective" watch, fast forward to today (5th day) and I haven't received any update other than everytime I reached out to them all I get was "They'll email you when they have an update." I'm not complaining because I know the risk of buying essentially a 2nd hand item, but cosmetically the watch looks brand new no scuff or marking for $378. I reached out to amazon and all they can offer is return for a refund with a 20% coupon on any future purchase or keep the watch and a 10% off, at the time I said no as I wanted to see if apple can help me out first. So if anyone of you out there have similar experience can you let me know how it went? did it took more than 5 days? did they end up removing the lock? Thank you and sorry for the long post.

Ran into the same problem with a 40mm aluminum s4. Amazon doesn’t check for functionality or iCloud activation on returned watches. If the equivalent watch in equivalent condition is still available, they’ll exchange it for you (no guarantees you won’t have the same problem on the next one), otherwise a refund is the best you can normally expect. The 20% off coupon is a nice bonus.

Apple, as far as anyone can tell, never unlocks activation locked product except for the original owner, which isn’t you, you bought used. I’d take the refund.

Thanks for the reply. I do hope apple will come through as I've provided them all proof of purchase and ownership for the apple watch. If not I guess I'll just return it and get another one and take them up on that 20% coupon. Hopefully someone here got a different experience and apple actually unlocked it for them.
