This morning I was attempting to remove my Milanese Loop from my Watch. However, one end was not coming off. Finally after about 5 minutes I was able to remove it. But when I tried to put it back on it would get stuck. So I decided to schedule a Genius Bar appointment for the afternoon.
I arrived at the Genius Bar appointment and was assigned to a Genius (Ive seen him several times before). He looked at the Watch with a magnified glass and couldn't see anything wrong. He agreed it was the Watch and not the band. He said he noticed a small blemish near the center where the band locks in. He setup a replacement because they did not have any in stock. I would need to pick it up later from the Apple Store. I inquired about having it shipped to my house. He informed me I would need to call AppleCare to set that up. Bummer. I really wanted it today. So I decided to reason with him about getting a replacement today.
I asked if my replacement would come in a generic box. He said it would. I explained how I wanted the serial # on the Watch and box to match if I ever sold the Watch. (I brought all the original stuff including shipping box with me). I also explained how I wanted a new Watch because this was a manufacture mistake and wanted an Watch I knew was new. Also explained I didn't want to call AppleCare nor did I want to take another 1+ hours to drive to the Apple Store. I asked if a manager would ever make an exception or if I would need to go to "war" with AppleCare over the phone. Saying all this with a smile and joking all along the way. He said, "They won't give you a new watch". I appreciated his honesty. Waited a few minutes then asked if he didn't mind if I spoke to a manager about a possible exception.
5 minutes went by and he returned without a manager. He told me, "I think we can do this." 5 minutes later he was back with a sales associate who then checked me out with my brand new 42MM Milenese Loop Watch. Even got a $1.76 refund because the sales tax in the county is different from the county it was originally shipped to. Bonus, the warranty for my new Watch started today instead of April 24th 2015 (Launch Day). So basically got another 5 months warranty and the option again to purchase AppleCare. I told Scott he did a good job and I'm sure he did some work behind the scene to get the approval.
Thanks Scott! Thanks
