Soooo....

So now that we have some better specs out there, and some overall better knowledge of what this thing can do (based on current app releases) what does "everyone" seem to think?

I haven't been a watch person in years, long before smart phones, and based on my job I'd just damage it anyway. Was hoping that the Apple Watch would provide something that would wow me into being interested, but so far, not really.

Think this thing will actually stick around in any serious fashion? Aside from just Apple Fans?

can someone tell me what the watch can do independent of the phone?

1... check time (basic time)
2... use bluetooth for headphone.
3...????

i mean, if i have to bring my phone with it, why can't i just stream it from my phone and save my watch's battery life?

So many unanswered questions after the keynote yesterday. You'd think if the watch was able to pair with Bluetooth devices other than the iPhone, they would've mentioned that. My gut feeling is that the watch is probably only able to pair with the iPhone. Hope I'm wrong.

Need more info. As DDaddy mentioned above, no audio jack, how do we get the audio to our ears? If you go for a run or to the gym do you still need to carry your iPhone with you?

Bluetooth ear buds (much easier to use at the gym than a cord which gets in your way).

If you go to the gym, you can leave your phone in the locker. It watch will play music without the phone. And.... as long as the gym has wifi and if both the phone and watch are on the same wifi, you'll still get alerts/emails/phone calls on your watch!

Why would someone take an iPhone on their run?

(pretty much the only use-case I can think of for this feature)

I guess some people work in places that don't allow devices with cameras, they'd benefit from this.

See that pic there ? Can the watch be "iPhone free" when use for running ? I really don't know, but if its not... like I said might as well use the iPhone

The watch is useless. It's just an expensive basic digital watch from the 80's without the iPhone connected to it. Really no use for me. Apple BS.

The stainless steel Watch model should have at least 16GB and the gold Edition model should have at least 512GB because money.

For $17K It should come with more storage, a set of Bluetooth headphones (even those new BT Powerbeats are fine) and a servant to wash your genitals every night.

I see nothing that makes me want this. It's a watch that does a few extra bits and pieces, most of which are gimmicky and require you to also own one of Apple's expensive phones, and is more expensive and less convenient to use than a watch that just tells the time. It's basically the 2010s version of those Casio calculator watches from the '80s.

Ummm, wouldn't it me more feasible to pair some BT headphones with your iPhone and use the watch as a remote control?
Sure, that doesn't work independently of the phone, but since almost everything else doesn't either...

Try jogging or lifting with an iphone 6 plus somewhere on you.

As long as the Watch needs the iPhone to experience all its functions, it will be quite useless. I just hope that Apple will put to use the money from the millions and million who are gullible enough to buy this; and make the Watch a fully standalone device by its second or third generation.

You can't SEE the phone while running - you CAN see the watch while running though.

And I wonder how the memory (NOT the same thing as storage) is handled on the Apple Watch. Is part of the 8GB just used as memory or does the Apple Watch have some amount of dedicated memory? If so I cam't see more than 512MB of memory in it. But I could be wrong.

512MB or 256MB is my bet too. Apple never over-supplies if they can get away with it.

It'll probably be a triple stacked SoC, RAM, Flash package, very small.

In my use case, I find it perfectly acceptable. I won't be 'gullible'. It IMPROVES my experience.

When I'm cycling, I can keep the phone in the front handle bag of my bike, just like I always do. But I can actually SEE texts/alerts/phone calls which I was never able to see before until I got off the bike. At the gym, I can wear just a watch and not an iPod in my pocket to listen to music. Plus no cords. And at my house, I can leave my phone on the coffee table, and go outside the house (within wifi range), or anywhere in the house with my watch and still get all my alerts.

So, there ARE use cases, but it's not for everyone. To call EVERYONE 'gullible' is wrong.

except the Shuffle is $300+ cheaper for the same 2gb music storage.

The shuffle doesn't have Bluetooth, isn't water resistant, had no built-in strap, and doesn't have a screen. Whether that's worth the extra $300 is up to the user. (To say nothing about the phone features, if those interest you.)

Edit: oh, I guess the shuffle also doesn't keep time, haha.

Rev 1 product features

If you don't have the money just skip to Rev 2 (which is what I'm doing). Unlike when the iPhone came out I don't "need" the watch as much as I needed the iPhone. So going to wait for Rev 2 product.

What we are seeing here are Rev 1 hardware and features. Rev 2 will be much stronger and as moving forward into other revs.
