Apple watch/iPhone messages don't sync?

When I delete an SMS/imessage thread from the watch, it doesn't delete on the iPhone.... And vice versa?

Do I have a defect/bug in my software or is this usually the case? If so, why don't messages sync when everything else does?

All iOS devices work that way. Deleting messages from one does nothing to the others. The watch wouldn't be any different. They also don't delete/sync in OS X.
