I owned the sport for 3 days and sold it. Although I am waiting on a stainless steel version (due Monday or Tuesday), it is NOT a game changer.

Will it became a game changer? Most likely.

I agree with your review, but when I am asked 'what does it do?' I am at a loss. I can buy a much higher quality Citizen for the same or less money. True, that is not a smart watch, but not having to take your phone out of your pocket hardly makes it a game changer.

I respectfully and completely disagree. When I'm not reliant on my phone 80% less than I was prior to the watch, that is most certainly a game changer.

Most important question: Do you own and more importantly use the watch on a daily basis?

I'm assuming Apple wants (as always) tight controls on how their products are portrayed - especially so with their flagship jewelry tech product. The last thing they want is a naked picture as a watch face.

So about the whole wallpaper limitation thing...
The face that has the changing images/seemingly 3D images, I was almost upset we can't change those ourselves.

But I did some searching. “We shot all this stuff,” Dye says, “the butterflies and the jellyfish and the flowers for the motion face, it’s all in-camera. And so the flowers were shot blooming over time. I think the longest one took us 285 hours, and over 24,000 shots.”
As a photographer, I have a deep appreciation for the amount of time others put into their work. I'm all for limiting to images to their company produced images.

I have the Garmin Fenix 3 also, it make that watch feel like it's from 1990. Glad I bought it from REI, 1 year return policy. I am on the fence, the Garmin might go back to the store. The only draw back is some swimming features and the lack of waterproofing.

I absolutely love my fenix 3. I am a runner, and cover around 50 miles/week, so it will be used extensively in my case. Unfortunately, the Apple Watch is not a device for endurance training. I see the Apple Watch as more of a complimentary sports device, and is more for casual training.

I'll primarily be using the Apple Watch for non-sports related tasks.

I really like that if I'm on my phone or iPad you don't get duplicate notifications or continue to go off when I'm not wearing it...major improvement from most if not all "smart watches"

Its not a game changer, its a fashion accessory to an iPhone and thats all it will ever be until its capable of being fully independent of the iPhone and offers the same full features of the iPhone. Neither is happening anytime soon.
You have an excellent point.

The greatest advantage of Apple Watch is all the attention being paid to Apple. Always quick to flex their marketing muscle, only Apple with it's massive cash hoard, is able to buy their way to the top.

Second is the very robust profit center it represents. A company known for their skill at collecting fat profits, the Watch takes profit making to a whole new level.

Secretly the truly fine line Apple walks is to not let the watch ever become a stand alone device. This would be devastating in ways most people cannot comprehend. The role that Apple's iPhone plays in Apple's lineup is so significant that it cannot be disturbed.

So as to speak from first hand experience I bought the Apple Watch. Used it intensively for ten days and returned it.

It's an excellent device for what it is. Make no mistake... I'm not bashing Apple or its latest profit center. In fact I celebrate everything about it as a very significant Shareholder. Apple stock has been very good to me for decades.

Yes, for those obsessed with reacting to every notification, every sign of movement, every time someone or something interrupts them, the watch is "their game changer".

But for those of us who are in control of their communication proactively, we don't need, nor do we want the constant nagging. For those of us who's fitness is a top lifestyle priority, we already have tracking gear if that's our preference. Add in the fact that many of us see technology as the highly useful tool it is, we keep it in perspective and would rather be active outside when not working, nor do we need to be entertained by a gadget.

However now that I've listed some alternate thoughts, if history is an indication, the haters that attack any opinions that don't agree with theirs are sure to unleash their wrath by zeroing in on this post.

Thanks for the review. I'm currently waiting for my watch and reading reviews is getting me through the waiting period !

Hoping you're not a politician...

Why not allow us to admire their butterflies and at the same time use whatever image we may prefer to it?

I'm pretty indifferent about it. I think it's lovely to look at. My favorite feature so far is the activities (which I thought I'd never use). I wouldn't say it's a "must have" accessory.

I've had mine for 4 days now, so it's still pretty new to me but I'm finding it both fun and very useful. For me, communication is about third on the list of things I use it for. Staying on top of my calendar/to-do list and activity tracking are my top uses. The activity tracking is a big deal to me because now it's all done in one device that's always on my wrist and is largely automatic, instead of wearing a fitness band, adding a separate a heart monitor for workouts, and using my phone to start workout tracking and check results (yes I could buy a fitness band that includes heart monitor now - and I did, the apple watch).*

Checking weather and having handy tools like a timer, delivery tracking, reminders, etc right there are nice bonuses. I haven't tried out the map app yet but I use that a lot on my phone and expect I'll like having it on the watch. So for me, this is going to become thoroughly integrated into my daily life and I think that qualifes for "game-changer" status.

*I agree that the activity and workout apps are more for casual fitness, but they seem to work really well and cover 90% of my needs. I assume the more technical fitness apps can (or will soon) be run on the watch so folks who need those will be covered too.

Agree with a lot of the OP, I'm borrowing my son's AWS for the next few days for a work trip and had it for the a few days last week(whilst I wait patiently for my SGSS). So far so good! A huge reduction in time spent looking at my phone, which, given it's a 6+ and in a book book case, is a good thing as that's a faff to get in and out of a pocket;).. But one of my favourite features is the "get off your ass" reminder, I work from home and spend all day on my laptop and on my phone and sometimes it's easy to spend the whole day in a chair.. It's a possible annoyance but it's amazing how time flies when you are busy..

One thing I'd like is more phone controls from the watch when on a call. Mute along with hangup on the normal screen with some other options like hold, add call etc on the force push.. Maybe in a future update?

I was fully expecting to cancel my SS order after a few days using this but I'm looking forward to it even more now! Darn-it;)

why is everyone so excited about "looking at your phone less" lol. You spent 1000 dollars for a really nice phone, then spent another 4-700 so that you don't have to look at it...

Totally agree
At the moment nothing beats the iPhone experience
I'd have a panic attack if I forgot my iPhone but it wouldn't be a big deal if I forgot to wear my apple watch

Excited to be looking at it less for mundane, tedious tasks like checking every incoming notification. Taking it out for purposes it excels at such as web surfing.

With my 6 Plus it takes some awkward maneuvering to get it out my pocket in certain situations. Specifically when I'm seated or wearing jeans with constricted pockets. Also taking your phone out in certain situations is frowned upon. Examples are at work, when driving, or at dinner with the family. Glancing at a watch to see if a notification is important is dramatically less obtrusive than standing up, removing phone from tight pocket, looking at it, then putting it back in that tight pocket.

I don't see it as spending $400 so I don't have to look at my $1000 phone. I see them as a team working together for my benefit and convenience. Each entirely better at what it does than the other, but a formidable pair when working together.

Makes sense, I don't have a 6 plus but may go that route next time since I got rid of my ipad. It will be nice to not have the phone out at dinner with the wife. I'm wondering how convenient it will be for me since I have my macbook that gets notifications at work, an imac that gets notifications at home, and a phone of course. Looking forward to trying it out but I mainly bought the watch because I think it looks nice and has uses such as navigation and fitness tracking.

Not sure you understand. The Apple watch Sport comes in a ridiculous box like this:

The Stainless Steel watch comes in a box more like our Omegas.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. I do have the Apple Watch stainless steel. The box is not as great as the one from my Omega and Tag but still pretty much in the same style direction. Cheaper of course but the watch costs only a fraction of the Omega and Tag.

So overall I quite like the Apple Watch Box and will keep it together with my other boxes.

For me especially it's when on the move, eg shopping. It's an inconvenience to pull out the phone to check because it might be something worth checking.

It's a very small enhancement, but I think the Apple Watch is a collection of small enhancements that lead to a greater overall result.

I think this is approaching the Apple Watch as an iPhone replacement. The watch was never meant to be so, but rather an additional supplement to the iPhone workflow.

I own 3 watches. I wear a G-shock everyday. I have a Nike+ watch with footpod and GPS for running. I also have a Casio pseudo dress for 1 day a week.

I don't get enough notifications or emails apparently. We can agree to disagree agreeably. I'm glad it works for you, but sorry, still not a 'gamechanger'...yet.

I have a SS with classic buckle coming on Tuesday. I'll give that 14 days and if I can justify it, I'll keep it. If not, a Citizen ecodrive is a $100 cheaper.

Interesting and lively discussion on TWIT yesterday. Good for those wanting to hear all sides of the argument on the usefulness of the watch. Note: Leo Laporte "hates" the watch and says it is not a game changer. My 38mm SS BCB arrives tomorrow...I'll be interested to see if I agree.
