Hi guys

I charge my watch, turn it off for when I need it, but it always turns itself on, so I have to turn it off again, and the cycle begins lol.

Can anyone tell me how I can make this watch not turn itself on?

Thanks guys

Does it turn itself back on right away, or do you find that it's on when you grab it later?

You're not accidentally bumping it or putting it on the charger, are you? Just a quick push of the side button or placing it on the charger will turn it on.

Thanks for your reply l.

It turns itself untouched and completely randomly. I’ll know as I’ll check my Bluetooth and it’s connected to my phone, then go and turn it off again.

Literally tried eveyrhting, and I cannot figure this out, is this faulty, surely there must be a setting doing this...?

Putting the watch on the charger will turn it on I'm pretty sure that is by design (Otherwise, it has no indicator for whether the charger is even doing anything.) If you want to turn it off, charge it to 100%, take it off the charger and turn it off.

Correct, all ios devices will turn on when connected to a charger. If the OP is turning the watch off, which is a different process in watchOS 9, and then putting it on a charger it will turn on, that’s normal. If he’s turning it off after removing from the charger then something must be pressing the side button, doesn’t take much pressure, I do it inadvertently when just wiping it down when I’ve turned it off. But that should be obvious on the watch, checking Bluetooth isn’t necessary. If he’s leaving it on the charger so that it’s not with him and he can’t see it turning on but has to check Bluetooth on his phone then it’s normal.

Theater mode is a good option and I turn this on when I’m at appointments or any event such as a theater when I don’t want to be disturbed or annoy others. Screen stays dark but you will get a buzz letting only you know that there is some notification or call.

The watch won't alert nor will the screen come on if it's off your wrist anyway, so theater mode in this instance would be redundant.

But yes, odd that it would turn itself on unless OP is turning off the watch, then placing it on the charger.

Yes, I was just echoing the suggestion if the OP didn’t want to be disturbed while wearing it, might negate the need to turn it off.

Thanks for all your replies guys.

Unfortunately, I am still searching for why my watch turns itself on. Nothing is knocking it, it just turns on.

Maybe Ill have to contact Apple as it is annoying when I go to turn it on and it's out of battery because it turned itself on lol

It turns on because it's designed to turn on when connected to power.

It won't run out of battery because it turns itself on when connected to power, and when you're not using it, it should be connected to power. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe just leave it on the charger? You just want it to be charged when you want to go exercise, right?

Since OP only uses the watch for exercise, battery health isn't that much of a concern. The battery only needs to last the duration of the exercise.
Thanks but keeping my watch on charge constantly because it won't turn off and stay turned off isn't the solution. Ill contact Apple as it must be a fault as no one seems to know of a setting that might be doing this

Just to be clear since there have been some confusing responses, including mine. You put it on a charger, fully charge it, then take it off the charger and use the side button to shut it down and it goes black. Then some time later it turns on again with no interaction from you. That would be a defective watch which none of us have experienced resulting in these confusing responses to you. If it’s a new watch or one with Apple Care in effect then it should be replaced under warranty. If neither is the case then a repair would seem to be the only solution, either that or trading it in for a new one.

I’m not an expert but I don’t believe there is any setting that could turn a watch back on. It could be possible that there is some debris around that side button that somehow triggers a restart. When I’ve turned mine off just removing my strap to clean it or put another one on it restarts most of the time because I’ve unintentionally pressed that button while removing the strap. It doesn’t take much pressure at all. You could wait till watchOS 9.1 is released to see if this is somehow software related. But after that I would either get it repaired or replaced. Either way good luck!
