But right now it just duplicates my iPhone 6.

I have one and it does a lot of things that my iPhone 6 doesn't. And it does them exceptionally well in my opinion.

I started collecting mechanical watches in 1993, they're all sleeping in the bank vault right now, and will be all sold by next year. I can't imagine people wearing a Rolex as a daily driver 5 years from now, and I say this as a former mechanical watch enthusiast.

I agree that YOU don't need it.

YOU don't understand the real difference (along with many others). You think it's just a time-saver of 2 seconds from pulling out your phone from your pocket. This just shows that you don't really understand how the watch is worth it. Sure, I wish it was cheaper, but for the $350 Apple Watch Sport, it was worth it to me. It's NOT worth $700-$1000 to me, but to some people it might be.

I'm not going to try to convince someone that the watch is for them, because it's really not possible. Because people are all different. Some people have their phone out all the time, constantly fiddling with Facebook, twitter, emails, using it like a GameBoy, surfing the web, etc. - for those people, the watch will not help at all.

For those people who want to STOP using their phone (like me), it's amazing. I don't treat my phone like a GameBoy, it's there for 'when I need it'. For those people, the watch is such an amazing device.

Well i buy things based on the need, so its very easy for me to decide. I work too hard to spend money on something i don't need.

I almost bought the black SS with link band, but my wife talked me into the silver ss watch with link band. It still took a month to receive it. I am actually glad with my decision as I think it a little more "sophisticated" looking than the black version. Of course that is my personal preference.

Sorry to those folks that are still waiting. It was very frustrating for me and I have tremendous sympathy for those still stuck in the Apple queue.

And no one cares. I will have a look at maybe 4-5 th generation, just like with the iPhone. Which was only then good enough to justify buying it.

If you say so. I had already enjoyed the original iPhone, the 3G, the 3GS und the iPhone 4 and 4S by then and it always was the best phone available on the marked. But of course not good enough for you.
Set my alarm clock to 6:55 to be able to order the watch at 7:01 (only went life at about 7:03). Should arrive here (Spain) by Tuesday next week!

yay I'm excited for them i love mine ... PS i have more then doubled my battery life to 2-3 days just by switching off activate on raise of wrist :))))
Impressive! Loving' mine. Not sure I could deal with having to tap the screen or push the crown each time, though.

Prior to the Apple Watch, the last time I wore something on my wrist was probably the turn of the new century. Loving, the Apple watch and if anything, it's raised my curiosity about mechanical watches.

Pretty presumptuous. I enjoy my watch a great deal. It's proved to be very helpful, incredibly convenient and has certainly been worth the money I paid. I'd buy another if this one was lost or broken. I will buying my daughter one because it will be incredibly useful in her job.

You are welcome to your opinion however i have the first gen watch and have had each and every iPhone each one was great and i loved them all.

if you base when to purchase on the next version being better no wonder why you are waiting for the 6th generations i have a tip for you my friend this is the nature of technology and always has been. so jump in and get you feet wett before you yourself become obsolete. Cheers

First of all there is a difference between a laptop and phone compared to phone and smartwatch. Second i don't need to spend this unreasonable in my view amount of money to be reminded that i need to stand or see calories burned that are just a ridiculous approximation anyway. Or notifications.

At most it takes me 2 seconds to take my phone out and unlock it to see a notification or read an email.

If you can read i don't talk for everyone just me, i made a mistake by writing nobody cares, should have said i don't care.

Good for you.

P.S. First of all there is a difference between WANTING and NEEDING. Any reasonable person most certainly don't need it. So i did just that, decided i don't need one. I might want one somewhere along the line couple of years later. But right now it just duplicates my iPhone 6.

You must have been one of those people who said a touch screen on a phone is stupid/useless

Welcome to the :apple:Watch club!

For those that naysay, here is the counter-argument:

I've had mine for 3 weeks now, and the time for the honeymoon is over, and I still love using it.

I use it for:
Telling time
Stock Quotes during the day
Apple TV Remote
See who is calling so I can answer it on my Bluetooth headset
Checking in on my blood sugars (I'm T1 Diabetic with a Dexcom Share)
Calendar notifications
Reading and deciding on what texts to return
That goofy drawing thing to send to my friend that has a watch
Exercise status (When riding a bike, it's a lot easier to look at a watch than pull out the phone)
Setting timers for countdowns
Paying with Apple Pay
News reports

That's the long of it. The short of it is that it is useful for information that you want to act on within 5 seconds. The time to pull out the phone and do all of this is about 9-20 seconds between pulling it out of my pocket, finding the app, selecting it, and reading and acting on the information.

It's about convenience, and streamlining what you do.

Enjoy! :)

And I don't need a MacBook Air, so I avoid articles about the MacBook Air.

I don't visit macbook air articles telling people I have no need for them. That's just pointless.

As the Apple Watch goes on sale in Italy, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan today, Apple has quietly announced that The Netherlands, Sweden and Thailand will begin selling the wrist-worn device on July 17. As with other countries, the Apple Watch should be available through the Apple Store, Apple Online Store and possibly select Apple Authorized Resellers.

Apple has been slowly catching up on Apple Watch backorders dating back to the April pre-order window, with most models now shipping in 1-2 weeks or less on the Apple Online Store and in-store reservations now available. The 42mm Space Black Apple Watch with Link Bracelet remains one of the more difficult models to obtain, with an estimated 2-3 weeks delivery date on the Apple Online Store.

(Thanks to everyone that tipped this!)

How did they make the display sideways?

I'm not wholly convinced by the Watch which is why I haven't bought one yet. Buy a Rolex or Breitling and it will last you a lifetime. The Apple Watch will be obsolete in 9 months when the next version is announced.

I don't get this line of reasoning.

The Apple Watch will still work the same as a Rolex watch in 5 years.

Will you call the Rolex watch 'obsolete' when Rolex comes out with a new model next year?

...You think it's just a time-saver of 2 seconds from pulling out your phone from your pocket.

That's exactly how I thought before I had a watch. I didn't want one and I wasn't getting one. Period.

Then my wife got hers and I got to see first-hand what it does. It really is about freeing yourself from your phone like bbeagle says. I find it magical that wherever I am, I can simply say things and actions happen.

Things like:
  • "Hey Siri, call my wife". And within 20 seconds I'm having a speakerphone conversation with my wife, while we're both driving down the highway, in separate cars.
  • "Hey Siri, remind me to pay the phone bill when I get home". And when pull into my driveway, I get a reminder.
  • "Hey Siri, play some music by Kate Bush" - and in a few seconds "Never for Ever" blasts out of the speaker dock across the room. It's a bit loud, so I just twist the crown and the level falls.
It makes a lot of simple things effortless. It's a bit like having super-powers or telepathy, or something :)

$350 is a bargain.

Somehow surprising seeing Switzerland not in the first waves of countries being as basically being the home of classical watch manufactores.
