Why, because it's square and not round? What would make it "premium" to you?

Mechanical face to be blunt.

Is that a rose gold edition with a white band( viewing on my iPhone) If it is it , it's does not look like a 10k watch on her. So to answer question, it needs to look less like a wearable with a LCD display.

The watch seems out of place with her outfit in my opinion. Ive seen other shots from the mag, and it's okay once she dresses down .

Have you got the time?

Elle might have a cocktail dress but they don't appear to have an Apple Watch. The time shown on the watch in all the pictures is 10:09. They either had a dummy watch or Elle spent a little time with Photoshop and the Apple website. This is probably not an Apple sanctioned piece but I can't see them complaining about it.

Elle has a worldwide circulation of 6 million. That leaves literally billions of women who aren't seeking its advice.
Billions of women who do not want and/or can not afford an Watch. The 6 million people who read this magazine are totally in the Watch's target audience.

my wife wants one and is excited for release day. She is not a techy at all and doesnt care about release days for apple products - until now.

I think the fashion aspect of this is real and will sell well. I am not convinced for myself. but maybe between the apple marketing machine and my wife, I will end up getting one along with her.

So, they give advice on what to wear and how to complement your Apple Watch, but no advice on where to put your iPhone?

'Remember ladies, you'll need at least a clutch purse no matter what.'

Or perhaps your partner/date will have to carry your phone?

You do know it will function as a standalone watch, among other things, right?

Apple coverage is going to grow quite tiresome if it includes every mention of the product in fashion magazines. Leave the fashion coverage to them and let's stick to less bubble-headed discussions here.

I think most women already have a purse and don't need to be reminded...

Considering the option for a standalone is a Gear that's 105% bigger than this thing, I'm sure they're ready to live with the limitations to not look like a total idiot.

Its not Apple's fault, people just don't wear watches anymore

Yep, no one wears watches anymore...I'm sick and tired of hearing this as an argument so let's put it to bed

I just dont get the appeal of apple watch. Maybe I'll want one when they get it to work without an iPhone. I haven't worn a watch in years.

It adds functionality to iPhone.

The fact it isn't a stand-alone product isn't a problem, as long as their is value in what it adds.

What's interesting is Apple decided a secondary product is where those features needed to go. Rather than adding fitness software, communication software, and a heart rate sensor to iPhone.

It doesn't have an LCD display.

It would be great to have physical hands on the watch face, but they wanted it to do more than tell time, and luckily people invented a way of making images move and UI change depending on which function you want a long time ago.

The AMOLED display on Apple Watch is rumoured to cost over half as much as the iPhone 6 screen, so you can't argue the quality isn't high.

Also, Elle is bought by 6 million, but most of those magazines are read by a lot more than that. They're routinely passed around A LOT. So, probably nearly 20M will see the ad.

Then, there's the fact that people who saw it are influencers which will then talk about it with others in their peer network...

Since the ads show up at the same time Apple is doing a launch PR push, there's a good chance some local media will refer to what's published in magazines. The models will talk about it when interviewed, or are seen wearing it.

At this stage, Apple wants visibility, they want people in the demo to know its coming and even make it a trending fashion item that people with Iphones already will see as a must have.

In the developed world, I'd say probably one in 4 or 5 currently wears a watch. From what I see, in the younger set, women wear then more than men. As people mature, it balances out a bit more.

MY OPINION:

Doesn't matter if you put an ugly watch next to a beautiful woman.

I think it will sell and people will like it for it functionality.

She looks amazing with/without 'the watch'

Take my money - DAMN - i'll tired of waiting for this sucker.

What functionaty?
Other than gps, i don't see any...still, can you see a **** on a screen like this?

Sure this will sell gazillions.

But it still looks incredibly nerdy - and placed in a fashion spread the nerdiness is even worse.

Ha. Exactly. :)

And for those that don't wear watches anymore, myself included, we simply haven't had a compelling reason to do so. And now we do.

I haven't worn a each in 20 years. The reason to do so, check the time, seemed moot once mobile phones hit mainstream. Why wear a watch when I had a timepiece in my pocket? Seemed redundant. Thus, the expectation of a wrist-worn device has evolved. No longer do I desire to just glance down at the time, now I'd like to also glance down at messages, email, receive feedback and other notifications. I think Apple understands this evolution better than anyone. And I'm looking forward to experiencing how this evolution fits into my ecosystem.

Your post kind of explains what I was thinking in my head. I think the annual figure will go up considerably once smart watches go mainstream. As with many previous Apple products I think the :apple:Watch will be the catalyst the smart watch industry needs.

Whatever you do, do not let them escape bluetooth range.

Well, my cousin is a loan officer, so if anyone needs to re-finance their house to take out $17,000 in equity for the top Apple watch, he can help. :D;)

In all the photos the watch screen is lit up. This will not be the case normally. I'd like to see all the same photos with an unlit screen because otherwise it's misleading and you can't really tell how it will really look.
